You can easily take out the M5 if hes in economy mode @ 400hp, if hes at full power at least 500hp, good luck, he'll still take you.

I assume so from the lack of cars he pulled on me, but then can't they change the power rating at the press of the button, just like that? Maybe they were going easy on me?

Most people press the 'M' button as soon as they start the car. You only save like 2 mpg so why even bother w/ 400hp mode? It's like me and my car's traction control. First thing I do is put it into Competition Mode as soon as I fire her up!

yeah, if i have an M5 that's what i would do. I would understand on traction control bcoz you have to consider the weather and condition of the road, but power wise i don't get it why BMW would do that?

BTW, somebody PM'ed me and want to know the specs on the cars...

I was refering to Siggy hence the reply to his quote

I dont se why a 340whp 3200lb car cant compete and possibly win against a 400hp 4000lb car

Your not going to save any gas with the M button not engaged, it restricts the indiviual TB's to 90%

The hp number is 500 SAE to be on the money
http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/M/M5Sedan/techdata.htm

507hp non-SAE rating

What dyno are you refering to? Wasn't aware the "M" button was so customizable, still whats up with the M5s burning so much oil? One guy was telling me that his takes a quart of 60 oil every month, the dealer just hands the stuff over and says here.

-actually most bmw's burn about a quart of oil every 5 or so thousand miles (especially the x5's). All you have to do is pull into the bmw service drive, they'll check your oil level and if you need to top it off, they top it off...thay do that with all flouds; washer, atf, oil, etc. The "M" button can control everything to the HP, to the numerous suspension settings, to the active seat setting (when you take a left turn the right side of the seat instantly inflates on the right side to prevent you sliding any), etc...we actually got the 08 M5 in yesterday, they changed the front/rear lights and a little on the interior...thats what my avitar pic is of

oo and one of my cust took his E60M5 to a dyno to see what if really has, he had heard as low as 498 and as much as 515. If I can remember, the next time he comes in I'll ask him if I can scan his sheets, he had 'em in the glove box last time he came in...I didn't think they would come in handy.

Looking foward t seeing those dynos. I'll have to ask the owner again how often he needs to add oil but I can almost be sure of him saying every 600 miles. I guess I'll find out next Monday if he shows up to the meet.

nbennett is a service advisorerer at a BMW dealer. So don't think he's another "know-it-all" of BMW's, he knows his shit.

Great runs, guys. Damn, Siggy. I'm impressed by how much power you're throwing out. Take that bish to a 1/4 mile track, please!

Usually the DRs will affect your 60' times and for everyt tenth of a second it will usually knock off 0.1-0.15 seconds from my experience.

They tend to drop your trap speeds as well but the end result is that your ETs are much better so I can se him dropping his times to 13.0-13.2 with a 2.0 60'.
