Automatic stock is a good race..
With my modifications I've taken all different kinds of 430s..
6 spd even stock would beat one though..
Put some sticky tires and the common mods and you would roast it hard..

Long time ago, Tom (aka Tom2) raced his friend CLK430 in his stock CL-S and he said they are dead even no one was pulling. Ask him about this he might still remember it, and yes he posted the race result...

The CLK and CLS are dead EVEN........EXCEPT......If we were on the highway and the driver of the clk decides to WOT we lose with no mods. If we are modded i/h/e, we are even again and i will lean more towards the CLS.
From a dead stop, it's the driver. I haven't done to many stop light races where i actually had shift in to 4th, with that in mind, you should be able to either stick with one or edge them. My uncle's son has a 99 E430 or 420 i forgot.. anyway, we did the beltway race as usual, and we were WOTing around 80 or so, and he stomped me between 90-120. I only have a intake, pulleys and sparks. CLK i believe is lighter than a E430 but not by much, and w/ a V8 i think upper-highway speeds, they will beat us.

You guys gotta remember that Mercedes are designed for highway passing, not for 1/4 racing. The exception is AMG models. A CLK430 has something like a 2.82 rear drive ratio which isnt really beneficial to drag racing. If you race a CL-S vs CLK430 from a 70 roll the CL-S will get owned.

Yes, it's true, I raced my BROTHER (he works for MBUSA and had the CLK as a company car) and our cars were DEAD even.
Here's a quote of mine from an OLD thread here.....
By the way, after reading that, I realized that my old post was from WAAAAAAAAY back in the H-Anet days.

Yes, I posted a long-winded message about racing a CLK430 back on H/A net last year.
My brother has a new CLK430 (he works for MBUSA, it is a company car) that I drove and noticed that it felt incredibly like my CL-S.
We decided to take them out and have our own little comparison.
To make a long story short, the two cars were so evenly matched that it was incredible. It couldn't have been any closer if it were two Acuras or two MBs racing.
By the way, Motor Trend listed the SAME EXACT NUMBERS for both cars in 0-60, 1/4 mile and trap speed.

My old college roomate has a CLK430 AMG (basically the AMG wheels).... I have raced him a number of times. Both pre and post headers.
Very very close without headers. Tom2 was exactly right. They seemed to have the same engine. We raced until 100, and it was still about dead even. I am sure when 4th gear kicked in, it would be over.
After my H/I, it wasn't nearly as close. Still a good race, but I was faster. Again, I am sure it would be over for me after 110+, but how often do you actually go that fast?
Now that the CLK430 is no longer, we now have to deal with the CLK500.... Definitely faster than a stock CLS... Although a 6-speed with headers should be a nice match
