Fail Smog Inspection Because of CAI???
I just put my CAI in about a week ago and love it. Well my dad works at an acura dealership here and they were talkign about my car I guess and my dad told them about how i put the CAI in and they are telling him my car wont pass smog with it in there. Is that true? Any California guys gone through smog inspection with a CAI? I thought it was OK. Are the stupid dealer people trying to fuck with me and my dad? I dotn really want to have to put all my old shit back in, its a pain in my ass.

THat shit is CARB certified!!!! You're not adding anymore power to the engine and you should be getting colder air. UNless, the dealership is making you fail....there are ways.....cai shouldn't cause you to fail.

Why did your friend fail the smog test? He failed the visual inspection I'm guessing?
This shit is whacked... You throw in an extra length of tubing to get a cleaner fuel/air mixture and they slap you with a failed smog inspection?! I'm gonna get a couple of those CARB stickers and stick'em all over my car. I hear they add about 5 hp apiece anyways.

1. If you are in California, you MUST have a CARB sticker and number for a CAI, headers, etc.
2. They WILL FAIL a car due to a visual inspection. Other states only care if you pass on a dyno. California wants the parts to be "CARB'd" (some exceptions -- and it gets complicated).
3. You could burn 0.0 emissions on all gasses and still fail without that little EO number and sticker.
BTW, you shouldn't be seeing any testing on cars that have NOT changed owners. They Cal smog test is given every other year, but with new cars they let you skip the first test (years 1 and 2). Then year 3 is a NO-SMOG, so year 4 is the general SMOG TEST YEAR (so it has been for us). When a car is sold, it needs a smog check (at least in California).
I had a car that burned 80% cleaner than stock, but was FAILED due to a missing part (The added part made it much dirtier, but they were happy... go figure).
I would check on the "why" it failed... (O2 sensors can get screwed-up and are a common cause of a "bad test" on some cars [I also speak from experience])
