Exhaust: cat-back? axle-back? Huh...?

What's the difference between cat-back and axle-back exhausts? Thanks!

Axle back is usually mufflers only. When we say axle back, we mean the parts begin behind an axle, usually the rear. These are the most efficient in terms of price to power ratio for the CL.

Cat-back usually means theres new piping involved as it begins right after the catalytic conveter. These are great, but aprrently give only minimal gains over a standard axle-back system.

Thanks HellaWhat! So presumably a cat-back would further reduce back pressure compared to the axle-back, but would of course cost more because there's more piping involved.... Thanks for the explanation.

you can get custom piping to make your exhaust cat-back.

however I think you will lose some of your low end torque by adding this type of exhaust.

Greddy makes a cat back system for the TL/accord v6. Anything for the CL may require you taking the exhaust you buy to a muffler shop and welding some new piping to your exhaust.

Really it comes down to how you want your car to sound/rumble.

FYI, the CL-specific EVO catback was released by GReddy about a week or so ago. I just put them on yesterday afternoon.
