It could also be from 'bad' gas. I drove a XKR once with bad gas and it made more of a 'ping' sound and it would only happen under mild acceleration. Sometimes, it's the simple things.

i checked, the tick tick sound comes from between the engine and the front windshield, in the center! NOT from the driver's side.

This probably means its not the solenoid purge valve... so headers or valves? is that the only possibility?

Well, I'm guessing you have a crack in the header on the rear bank. I know it's hard to get to back there so maybe now is a good time to take it to a good exhaust shop and see if they can find it and weld it back together. If thats the only place the noise is coming from, I doubt it's the valves.

EDIT: Better yet, take those headers off and replace them with some XS Powers.

If it isssss indeed a crack......how much performance loss would there be? minimal or would it be like you didnt have headers at all? Just curious.

I would think it would be minimal. More annoying than anything else.

Lord or anyone else, I hope you can help me out.

I just went to the Acura dealership very quickly to do a quick checkup to find out what will need to be done next week when I bring in my car.

They said that they are almost positive its the valves that are ticking, not the purge solenoid nor the headers.

The big hummmmmmmmmm noise comes from the headers they said. They looked carefully, and it seems that there are 2 cracks, one on the front and one on the back near the bolts.

So the dealer can't do anything about that since they are aftermarket headers.
So then I went to a japanese mecanic (real good mecanic) and he says that he "could" weld back the headers, but that it would be a temporary job since when you weld, it might crack again..

Any opinions?

Wouldnt know unless I hear it, but if it's the sound mine has, it is definately not the valves. Sorry I cant help anymore.

Yeah that's all you can do unless you want to uninstall them & put on XS headers.
I would get them welded & see if you still hear the ticking. It should be cheap to get done.

Always try to get the cheapest things fixed/checked before you spend all you $ on useless parts or services. And stop going to that dealer.

I would have the crack in the headers repaired/replaced with XS Powers before bothering with the valves. I still doubt it's the valves.

Lord, are these it:

or these:

??

I guess buying them for $150 isnt that bad and couldn't be worse than welding up the cracks.. I just hope I don't experience fitment issues!!

Both are the same seller even though the seller name is different. Either will fit fine. There have not been any fitment problems of any major concern. A few took some playing with to line up & that's about it.
I still think it's better for you to get them welded first & then see what happens. It's not going to cost you as much $ as getting the new headers & then paying to install them.

Oh, yeah. I forgot, you would have then installed rather than doing it yourself. I completely agree with fuzzy then.

But you must realize that they will have to take the headers off to weld the crack in the back... so labor will be expensive. I dunno what to do.

True but that depends on the shop doing it. I've seen headers welded while on the car & in some tight places.
Ask the shop. If they need to take them off then yeah just replace them.

well fuzzycls02, I've checnged the headers. I actually bought the ones that you talked about, the power xs headers. It fixed my whole problem dude!
thanks for all the help.

By the way, I noticed that these headers, compared to the Alpha Werks, have slightly more "resonance"... Anyways, no biggie.
