Eagle F1 GS-D3: The New Tire to have?

This tire ranked #1 over the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position.

The price is only $162 for 235/40/18

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....agle+F1+GS-D3&

My second choice would be the new Yokohama AVS ES100. The price is only $136 for 235/40/18.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=AVS+ES100

What do you pick?

Nashua,
I was dead set on the Toyos but cost/tire life etc., have started my thinking in another direction. My pick right now is the Yokohama AVS ES100.

the avs es100's were my first choice, however they are backorder for about a month on 225/45/17 so i ended up with kuhmo ecsta mx's. i'm sure they will suffice.

zap, I have had yoko avid v4s and now i have yoko a550v, i love them. They wear pretty well and are quiet. I haven't had the 550s long enough to test them in the summer, but they seem to grip pretty well.

blacura,
Yea. I love the tires. Although I wanted to go with a 40 series and the only 40 series they have is on a 245 and i don't know if they'll cause problems once the car is dropped.

I went with the Toyo's. They are sure noisy - compared to my old P7000SS.

IMO - I'd go with the F1's.

I have a question on TireRack in general...how accurate would you say the Survey result numbers (like Dry Traction, Ride Comfort..etc.) are?

Reason I ask is because I have been interested in Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons for some time but some people on this board have said they are not as great as they seem. According the the survey results on TireRack, they score very high (including higher then the SUMMER TIRES (Yoko's) mentioned in this thread).

They are nice tires. But if you have headers they won't provide the off the line grip you are looking for. I drove with them in the winter. They aren't bad. I'll probably try dunlop 5000s next time.

How much better would you say the Sport A/S compared to stocks in dry traction?

So....so. If you are stock and plan to remain that way you'll be ok. For example.....right now i'm stock, I can spin the tires with ease. From a standstill, rolling at 5mph, rolling at 15mph just have to mash the gas pedal. They are better than stock in overall performance but these aren't drag tires. The majority of the weight is towards the outside.

I have the Yoko AVS ES100s and I couldn't be happier. I got them from Tirerack @ $105 a tire. The tread pattern is really aggressive looking and makes the car look better. The handling is greatly improved and I find myself taking turns with ease. The peformance in the rain is excellent, no more hydoplaning. The road noise is about the same as stock and the treadwear isn't that bad as long as you rotate often. I have about 7000 miles on my Yokos and have enjoyed every mile.

For the first 100miles or so you'll feel like your riding on monster truck tires. The sound is kinda loud too but once they are broken in you'll be fine

Right, AgentDSS and I have spoken about these tires before. I believe the stock setup with the CLS putting down 200hp the tires would be adequate. However, 220 to the ground is just too much. I'm telling you people Stock CLS automatic these tires should be fine.

Zapata, I'm planning to get new tires (as mine are crap stocks with a ton of patched up nail spots) in the summer. As you know I was looking into the Pilot A/S.

Do you or anyone else recommend a tire for those in the North East that is all around awesome in dry/wet and "average" in winter conditions? Also has good treadwear and not a summer tire? I do plan on getting headers and this tire spin is nuts!

AgentDSS,
Well since our cars are FWD and put down a good amout of power we are pretty much hamstrung. You'll have wheel spin no matter what unless you go with a super sticky tire. What your looking for is what I was looking for. You can check out Dunlop Sport 5000s. Those are the tires i'll be purchasing down the road as my winter tire. PilotSports are a good all season performance tire. They are MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better than stocks. Don't get me wrong.

I got them for my 19's but still didn't arrive yet, but i don't think it'll be a good compar. cause i'll be testing it w/ 19's instead of 17's.

AgentDDS, try the Kumo Escta 712's they're pretty cheap and last awhile. I think JZ is pretty happy w/ them
