dvd navi

i have a 2001 3.2cl with dvd navi
is there a way to play dvd movies in there?
cause when I put movie dvd in it says there's no dvd inserted or something
this would be cool for road trips

That's a Yes and a No. Yes, it is possible with a converter. No, because it is illegal. You can't have a visual entertainment system in a driver's line of sight. You'll notice all the DVD entertainment systems currently available from vehicle manufacturers are out of the driver's line of sight. What the difference is between a moving navi screen and a hollywood movie I can't tell you, but the law makers have decided a movie in a driver's line of sight is bad. Seeing all the people that wreck when just using a cell phone maybe they are right.

with the converter method do i need to purchase an additional dvd player? because i would like to just be able to put movies in the trunk w/ the current navi dvd

Yeah i'm pretty sure you have to get an additional player. You can get some really cheap portable dvd players on ebay.
