DRL / "tricking the headlights" question (from recent headlight troubles)

Ok, so as a result of my recent headlight/ballast troubles I've started to think. When a ballast goes it I guess the highbeams kick on at half the intensity or 1/4 the intensity automatically. A lot of people have talked of getting those kits for the highbeams to turn them into DRLs, however...is there a way of tricking the highbeams into "thinking" a headlight is out? where is the relay for this? there must be a way to accomplish this...

When my ballast went out my high beam didn't come on.

odd. yea I actually saw another CL at a gas station w/ the same ballast problem and his were on at about 1/4 power or something. So it's definitely not just me...

dumb/lazy question but how does one know when the ballast is failing? my right headlight is dimming/no loner blueish. I assumed it was a bad bulb (have not replaced).

The highs are a separate system. They should not have any bearing on the HID's. However if you have bad grounds that may be a shared problem.

i had a bad ballast that resulted in the high beams 1/2 intensity. I think my ballast was grounding it's self out becuase i was blowning fuses on that side only. Replaced the ballast and all return working perfect.

Even if that is the case (most likely), is there a way we can switch them to half intensity for use as DRLs?
