the fron license plate on a 3.2 cl ruins the cars style and looks..does anyone know if i will get pulled over without a front plate??

There is a form you can fill out at DMV... so that if you lose your front plate... or it gets stolen. You dont have to have one.

But under normal circustances... you have to have one.

I drove my TL around for 6 months without one... through traffic checkpoints and everything... and never had a problem.

Unfortunately, even if you opt not to put it on, the dealer will have already installed the front holder leaving 2 ugly holes in the bumper.

gto... in New York... the dealers dont drill the bumpers.

In NJ... they do.

I dont know why.

But my car was obtained through a dealer swap with a Jersey dealer... and my car came off the truck with two big bolts in the bumper

Thats why I want Xephyr to get off his ass and make those chrome front plate covers... next best thing to having no plate at all. :\

Like Soopa said, there are ways around it, but every car sold in NY has a license plate holder in the front. It is NYS law that you have one. Besides the city, I know in Westchester County, they are strict about it. Long Island is too.....

Dang, I drove around California, another front license plate state and never got a ticket. Here they're anal about it. That and tint as well. I wanna get registered in NY just for the tint! I never noticed that about the front plates in NY before. I heard that there was another way of mounting it from underneath but I never saw it.

NY Vehicle & Traffic Law Sec. 402 states specifically there must be a license plate on both the front and the back of a motor vehicle (except motorcycle) registered in NYS. There is no provision allowing you to apply for a dispensation.

Dang Goto you really had some shitty service where you bought yours. I have no holes (just some scratches but the frame is now protected with electrician's tape) in my bumper. There is a brace that swings up from under the bumper. Btw have you gone to Park Ave. yet for your service?

The form you are talking about is DMV "MV-78B". Once filled out, DMV will ask you to turn in your remaining plate and issue you new ones. In order to use this form, you also need a Police report stating of circumstances of how the plate was lost or stolen. This is in event someone uses the plate, you don't get blamed for future tickets or even crimes.
VTL section 402. It is enforced here in Westchester/NYC area. Personally, I think only one plate is necessary.
