does it matter on brand of pulley?

does it really matter? i mean im just useing my cl as a daily driver, but i would like to get a set of pullys, but do i even need a set? or just the underdrive pulley?
- would it hurt if i got some low class brand like obx or even ebay brand?
- i dont race with my cl, but i gass it sometimes like once or twice a week

Get that one. There's only one left (assuming they won't manufacture any more)

but my question is, is it okay to get off brand pulley? im not very good with motor stuff, so help me out.

which pulley will have the most effect on my car?

Rapture 01-01-2010 04:59 PM

Well depends. I'm sure there are plenty of brands that'll manufacture them with crap aluminum (or whatever material they use). A lot of people here bought the Option pulley, had no problems.

and the crank pulley is supposed to have the most (if not only) effect on your car.

duyx817 01-01-2010 05:06 PM

do i have to get new belts if i get the crank pulley?

Rapture 01-01-2010 05:09 PM

With an underdrive pulley, yeah. If you get a stock size lightweight pulley, then I believe you can just reuse them.

Rajca 01-01-2010 07:44 PM

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/stock-pulley-light-weigh-pulley-underdrive-pulley-754003/
that should explain what u need.

only options from crank pulleys are UR or option

aem makes the accessory pulleys but that only good for show. crank is what u want for more power

Rajca 01-01-2010 07:48 PM

not all true. a light weight pulley or underdrive pulley doesnt add power, just releases more of the engines power. make sense?

by far either nitrous, headers, pulley are the best bang for the buck. yes nitrous, if done right u wont have any problems.
hate the stories that are spread about nitrous. dump ppl dont know what their doing with it :whyme:

fuzzy02CLS 01-01-2010 08:23 PM

I have the option pulley on my car for 2 years. Not a problem.
However I have to ask do you have mods? If not & it's just a car to you I wouldn't spend any money on mods.

duyx817 01-01-2010 08:29 PM

im getting kinda lost, but then again im on track. rajca, in your picture there is a oem pully then theres a light weight pulley, and then theres a option underdrive pulley,

i want the light weight pulley correct? (one in the middle)?
so im looking for crank pulley like this one,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Unort...ht_1571wt_1165

not this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-02...ht_3355wt_1165

hope im on track

well i love my car, mods that i done ONLY TO Engine are
-cai

but i done everything eles like fogs, subs and i have a nice battery

Rajca 01-01-2010 08:40 PM

both of those links are for underdrive, read the description carefully.

our vendor excelerate sells teh ur pulleys. not cheap. i just sold my ur pulley not to long ago for a steal of a price.

yes, in my pics it goes stock, ur light weight but not underdrive pulley, then option underdrive pulley. if ur using just the stock size light weight pulley u dont need new belts. but always a good investment, and at a couple bucks, cant go wrong

duyx817 01-01-2010 08:46 PM

lol.. when i read your posts, all i see is pulley this pulley that,

so im looking for a light weight pulley, so i wont have to change belts correct?
where can i find this? i dont wanna spend alot, im not sure what im getting my self into..

also what is "ur" pulleys whats the ur? what does it stand for?

Rajca 01-01-2010 08:53 PM

ur- unorthadox(spelling?) racing. just the company. and ur is the only company that makes a light weight pulley. can u reuse ur old belts. and the ur pulley new is just over $200. so either keep checking the black market or get ready to spend the money

darn,, well i guess ill have to look around now, i thought they had cheap after market brand for this pulley

but wait what is underdrive pulley then? is it the same thing as light weight pulley but smaller? but that will make you change belts? but then cheaper the ur light weight pulley?

Rajca 01-01-2010 08:56 PM

$60 for the option pulley and the two belts, but if u have a sound system think 600watts or more i wouldnt get the option pulley, it will underdrive the alternator

MrFluffy 01-01-2010 09:02 PM

what gives you more HP the under drive pulley or the light weight one and this is going to sound like a stupid question but the belt that needs to be changed is accessories belt right, not the timing belt (if you put the under drive pulley on of course)??

duyx817 01-01-2010 09:08 PM

i now get it! i understand all this pulley shiet after reading it like 100 times

Okay so i have 2 pulleys to choose from (CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG)

i can go with the ur pully which is 200 dollars, and dont have to change belt,

OR GET option racing pulley (smaller) so i have to change belts, (CHEAPER then UR pulley)

also so when it says underdrive pulley its just a smaller light weight pulley correct?

(i have a 1400 watt rms system but i dont blast it 65 % of the time)

Rajca 01-01-2010 09:09 PM

just the accessory belts need to be changed. underdrive gives more power.

Rajca 01-01-2010 09:11 PM

underdrive is smaller and lighter than the stock pulley but imo its just a hair heavier than the ur pulley, but still smaller.

someone thats good with sound system have to chip in. im all performance.

duyx817 01-01-2010 09:14 PM

me im 100% sound system guy, ahah ill be okay with my system i have like a 4 fred cap soo the pulley will be ok

thankyou rajca you really help me really understand the pulley things, thanks! your the best

Rajca 01-01-2010 09:22 PM

yup, no problem. thats why we have this great forum, strict (black market mostly) but great.

MrFluffy 01-01-2010 09:23 PM

I have around 2000 watts I found my cap didnt do fuck all but even out the power fluctuation I if I kept it on all the time my alternator couldnt keep up But im replacing my alternator soon and doing the pulley and belt at the same time

Rajca 01-01-2010 09:25 PM

let us know how the option pulley works.

have u thought about adding a 2nd battery?

duyx817 01-01-2010 09:29 PM

eh,, yeah i have a couple of batterys laying around but i have a Optima Battery and its holding up pretty good. its really easy to add a 2nd battery tho

so rajca which pulley are you running?

get a better cap first then, if that doesn't work then just replace the alt.

Rajca 01-01-2010 09:33 PM

i was running the ur stock size pulley, loved it. took it off, sold it, have the option underdrive pulley. but not installed on my current engine. it will be going on my built engine :ninja:

Im getting a new alternator soon but I may get one custom built for under drive pulleys there like 50 on ebay and 200 for the UR I think im going to get an ebay one

I mean I dont see it breaking , the only differenc is it may be a little heavier ??

Rajca 01-01-2010 09:42 PM

just a tinch heavier. but not noticable to many. and the only diff is the design, ur drills holes in theirs, so it take off some weight and maybe diff aluminum used. but ppl have the option pulley for years and years with no problems.

duyx817 01-01-2010 09:58 PM

so if i buy the option pulley, the only belts i need are these?
-gatorback 4040425
-gatorback 4060440

is this all i need?
is there anything eles i need like (hardware, tools bolts, you know, the extra stuff)

why i ask? im taking it to my uncles shop and he has a lift, tools, and what not, so i just wanna buy all the parts so he can install it all there at once without having to go back and forth to the shops and buy things

Rajca 01-01-2010 10:15 PM

if ur uncle has a shop, then they have tools. if they cant take it off with an impact gun, use the starter method, search for it. did it 3 time to get pulley off. works like a charm.

and those are the only belts u need. get them on ebay. my pulley and belts came out under $60

duyx817 01-01-2010 11:11 PM

how much does these belts cost out at the store?

Rajca 01-01-2010 11:21 PM

not sure. but i got mine from ebay.

Rapture 01-02-2010 12:05 AM

I meant as far as the pulleys go. He was asking if he should get the entire set, or just the crank pulley, and I was saying only the crank pulley, of the whole pulley set, will bring any noticeable results.

and I got the Gates belts (the guy at the auto store said he didn't have any Gatorbacks...weird). So the alternative to the Goodyear Gatorbacks would be

Gates K040425
Gates K060441

but if you can get the Gatorbacks, then get those. I spent altogether less than $40 for the belts. You can get them for less than $20 (not including shipping) from Amazon.com.

StreetKA 01-02-2010 08:11 AM

im runing cheap crank pulley from ebay for like 35$ with shipping and i could be happier its underdrive and i needed new smaller belts. it works for me just fine

Rajca 01-02-2010 09:37 AM

u just need the crank pulley for more power. the other pulleys are for looks

StreetKA 01-02-2010 09:50 AM

stock crank pulley weights around 8 lbs the ebay one i used on my car weights 1.5 lbs its like u shaved 6.5 from a crank and thats alot. i know that there is somewhere calculator which say if you shave 1 lbs from a crank and how much HP u gain

CL-S progression 01 01-02-2010 11:48 AM

option UR pulley is the only logical way to go for this mod

unless u come across someone selling there pulley set for cheap.

I heard it was 2hp free'd up from every 1lbs taken from the crank
