I like the Mini.... if you were getting it as a second car then I would say go for it. Those things are quick and have A LOT of potential. I know many guys who own Minis, and they all OWN autocross events.

i think that car is cool as hell. If i lived in the city i would rock one as a primary car just because of space considerations. But, it is a small car and i couldn't see myself driving one all the time if i had to drive a lot (aka suburban life).

hmmmm, compared to the CL, using it as a benchmark, i definitely want the sport aspect, to which the tuning and aero kits as well as the upgraded rims/tires help out...i also want the convenience of an everyday car

it's like taking a slushbox CL a step further...would it compete against a G35/Z??? not too sure...but for what i pay, i think i'm getting a comparable car for the price
practicality with a zing of sport, which is kinda what motivated me towards the CLS...only difference here is the Mini S configured the way i wanted has a much bigger zing

FWD has it's inherent positives and negatives. At this point I don't think i'd want to put the effort into FWD platform. There are plenty of them out there but the cost that goes into making them handle at the limits is too great for me.....at this point. If had the funding then i'd go with a RSX-S w/ coilover, typeR tranny etc., etc., at that point the ride of the car degrades to such a point i'd have to constantly remind myself "but this car handles and goes fast".

For the prices they charge for this car you can buy bigger better stuff elsewhere .This car plays on your emotions and hence they charge premium dollars for it .As cute as it is it rates very poorly on quality surveys . Big money for a retro econo crate sounds like waste of money to me .Sort of like Ford peddling the T-Bird for 40 large .

I would not consider it as a downgrade. My sister just bought one in June 03. It is a very fun car to drive around town, but for long D you should bring your pillow for your butt. The car looks and drives nice if only if it does not break down on you. My sister's Mini has been troublesome. Engine stalls at least once every month ( it is auto tranny), weird braking noise, engine light flashes, etc.. The dealer could not find most the problems. We were told that the engine is controlled by an advanced computer, and all troubles / codes are logged. They didn't see any reported error in the log, therefore they assume the car is healthy. They accused the CVT tranny software for the cause of stalling while on the freeways and they flashed the program, but it still stalls.
btw, there are ppl reported the stalling issue on http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...aintsearch.cfm

Yeah, I read it from some mags that Mini is built by both Chrysler and BMW. If I remember correctly, its engine is Chrysler but tuned by BMW. To save money, BMW decided to buy other manufacturer's 4 cyclinder instead of investing money to build their own. BMW left 4 banger land for a while already...

"The 1.6 is used in both the BMW Mini and the Chrysler Neon (depending on the country, the Neon is available with the 1.6, the 1.8 (a downsized 2.0) - or the 2.0 as the base engine). The 1.6 is totally unrelated to the 2.0, according to Chrysler, though some say it is based on the 2.0 architecture."
Mini shares the same engine with Neon.. muhahaha... one cost only $12, the other over $20k..

The mini is okay, but really doesn't do anything for me. I definitely think it's overpriced for what you get. For an inexpensive fun car, I'd rather have an SRT-4

Welcome back Karter!
In all serious, I saw a Mini Cooper S on a flatbed that looked ssssick!. Ssssick as in almost completely torn in two from the middle, looked like it hit a pole sideways there was dried blood on the deflated airbag it was kinda gross. Those cars are devilish on the road I always see one diving in and out of traffic doing 80+. While I do think they are probably about as much fun to drive as a Boxter S with a good set of tires, they look scary fragile to me and based on what I saw today, I would have to say they can't be too safe.
