Car mags are tabloids. They are prostitutes that sell themselves to the highest advertiser.
Having said that if you read many opinions you may be able to piece together some reality.

Honda/Acura has an excellent track record with drivetrain durability.
There are tons of Civic’s, Accord’s, Integra’s and Legends running around with 100K, 200K, 300K and more.
He was just speaking of past history.

We live in ultra-real time here on the forum. I can find out about a dealership in Portland on fire in under two hours, right here on ACL. ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The newspapers and the reporters and the magazines and Consumer Reports are months behind. This past summer, the CL drivetrain WAS great.

Historically honda/acura has expectionally good reputation for its drivetrain, and thats what the guy was refering to.
Just becos there have been faulty trannies built lately doesnt mean one can bad-mouth their entire drivetrain and the companies history in general

Even seen how the weather person can move over to the anchor spot?
Ever seen how a movie critic will end up doing regional news?
Even notice how automobile advertisements will show-up in an "Auto Special" section of the paper?
I can assure you that the test for that journalist did not consist of the following:
1. Thousand question exam on automotive history and practice.
2. Hundred question exam on current automotive warranty practices.
3. A "hands-on" test where the writer needs to rebuild a block.
4. A diagnostic test where a simulated engine needs to be "diagnosed" to find a simulated injector fault.
5. A finish in the top 10 of the Baja 500 or other competitive event.
90% of the newspapers will chose the guy that is a great wordsmith over a "tech guru." Finally, there is that issue of where they are going to go to get their information and that the people they are being critical of also pay for the advertisements in the very same paper.
BTW, even Consumer Reports has a "filled red dot" (AKA highest possible rating for reliability) for the 2001 CL transmission. This is on the subscription only website as of today (01-09-2003)
