It's pretty much like ross' setup it would be kind of hard to suck up water unless he decided to dive into a lake. It's not like the suction is that of a Ball Dyson.

What kind of difference do you notice with just a drop in K&N? If your gonna spend 50 on K&N should you just go all the way and get aem or comptech?

actually, i'm probably going to get some coins and go to coinstar to get an amazon gift card (no tax on gift cards). then order it on amazon for like ~$36 with free shipping (orders of $25+).

so lets just say $50 v.s. $250. That's 5 times you're paying for, for how many hp gains? how many more do you get with this "ghetto box" set up v.s. aftermarket?

its all personal preference, i was set on getting AEM (hp gains are less than comptech's, but barely any difference) for the sound, but since i just purchased a lot of mods for my car. I don't have $250 to throw away for minimal gains. $135 for XS headers which has been the best "bang" for it's cost.

i might get AEM, but it's not first on my list [anymore].

HAHAHAHAHAHA. I have one of those and its one of the best vacs i've bought. The only thing that sucked better was the price tag for it.

I don't understand how you guys can afford to buy Acura CL's but won't spend the money to buy nice modifications. I'm not going to disgrace my car with "jammed" PVC pipe and "dryer tubing". No fuckin thanks. To each his own.

And I'm all about bang for your buck. I just bought some XS headers....but that's $125 for some good power, what's $250 for the intake to compliment it? Damn.

depends how u look at it. i think it's a smart alternative. If you think about it. an AEM intake is just a metal tubing with bends and a filter at the end... and seriously, for $250 (and that's shopping around) it's kind of ridiculous esp. when it only gives u a few HP gains.

For my own set up, i removed resonator, spent $15 for the tubing and it'll stay that way for now until I feel like throwing away $250 for >1hp gain (compared to the ghetto box) and a piece of bent metal.

It's not crap, crap is ur tranny.

oooo really? $250 for an intake!!!! now lets do the HP/$ on that one. i agree, XS headers have a great gains to cost ratio. from my driver seat the dryer duct looks damn fine and i save $240! you're right...to each his own.

i do need to upgrade the hi tech dryer duct for some rigid plastic like the other pic.

with $2,000 in wheels invested, $200 for an intake is asking too much? iono, minus the fact that it's not the most aesthetically pleasing to the eye, i would personally never do/recommend this to others.

$2000 on wheels are mainly for looks
$250 for intake is for gains/sound

ghettobox: can't see it, same gains.. if i had to choose between AEM and this ghetto box mod i would choose AEM, but if you factor in costs. i will go with this ghetto box mod for a temporary set up.

Yeah, let's get all geeky and compare HP/$ ratios. I like to install proper, proprietary mods on my car. I said I'm all about bang for the buck only to emphasize that I by no means like to splurge on parts I can barely afford.

However, I spent $12,000 on my Acura and I'm not going to rig it up with some dryer/vacuum tubing and "jam" PVC anywhere. $250 is nothing crazy. Credit cards with 0% APR are your friend if you pay off the balance as you make money.

I learned long ago that cutting corners is not the way to compliment something you like a lot. My car is something I will not be cutting corners on.

spend your money on what you want, but trust me i spend money on my car when its for a good cause....look at my wheels. i had the AEM intake, and sold it because i quickly found that it wasnt worth the money when i can get the same gains and have a CLEAN stock looking enginebay instead of some POS 250 dollar pipe.

like i said. it may not look good...BUT you cant see it unless the bumper is removed. i rather have my stock box in the bay than a shiny red or blue pipe.

^ I agree, you can't see it unless the bumper is off so whether its ghetto in there or not makes the car look no different. You wouldn't know its there unless he showed or told you about it.

The AEM chrome, red or blue pipe looks so out of place our engine bay that I would only think of gettin a ice box, but for 250 I'll have to find a killer deal to upgrade...

I would like to give props to the guy who thought this one up. With limited mods for our car (and funds), we need creative minds to think outside the box or else who will?

By the way what ya got in mind now?

i too like to install only quality parts on my car and have done so (yes everything besides the homemade airbox intake that you can't see, hear or feel). but when ross showed me this idea, thought damn that'll do. main selling point to me being YOU CAN SEE THE DAMN THING AT ALL. hell it probably adds the same benefits without the hose and just removing the resonator.

dammit ross we should of left your bumper on and saved the forum 3 pages of bandwidth.

yea thats the main reason i added the tubing. you get a super quiet intake with direct air from the outside of the car.

On a scale of 1-10 10 being the hardest, how hard is this application? I am very interested to get the sound and minor HP gain but keep the stock look, it looks as if you have to take the bumper off also, any thoughts?

Isn't this more effective than an Icebox since it's pulling air directly instead of from behind a bumper? I have an Icebox and I don't see why this wouldn't be better with the exception of it's appearance....

i believe it is as effective or a little less (in performance) than the ct icebox. its louder than the icebox and not in a good way.

this is a misleading statement. my intake is not louder in a bad way. it sounds just exactly like my friends TLS with CT icebox.

maybe it's just mine.

if you don't put any tubing and just remove the resonator it hums... so it is louder. if u put tubing like in the pictures, it will silence it a lot.
