Im not saying you need to paint them, Im saying you need to care for them as if they were paint. After a few washes/storms that coating will wash off.

Thread resurrection time...so great diy I am thinking about trying this....one thing though so you clear coat right after sanding?? while i thought clearcoat is suppose to be on smooth painted surface? Also streetk how did turtle wax lasted.
also questions for avid diy'ers what is the good place to buy styff for car care like wipers, carbon, brake, engine cleaners, seafoam, fluids (brake, steering, tranny) and stuff. I am trying to maintain 3 of ur family cars incluing mine cls, civic and TL so price does matter.

Using clear after sanding will create a better surface for it to bond. Local auto parts places, online vendors for certain items.

I'm bumping this thread to get the attention of anyone who may have tried this DIY. Please post your long term results. Been wanting to do this for years, but after years of clearing I only have about one shot left.

I thought about doing this to my passenger headlight as it was really cloudy. But after more consideration.. wont the clear coat eventually get cloudy and hazey due to the sun as well as heat from mother nature? lol. I feel as if you'll have to redo them eventually. I had the better idea of polishing the headlight and getting it crystal clear then sealing them, then going and getting some clear vinyl film or some of that 3M stuff they use on new cars.. same concept. Once they get scratched up and hazy... peel it off then reapply.. or even use the clear glossifier plasti-dip.
