I wanted to do a cold air but the area where the filter would e always gets wet because the roads flood. It only reads about 8-9 degrees warmer then the air outside with stop in go traffic. It's louder then the first intake I had. I could tell a difference between the smaller intake and the bigger intake

You can use filters or hoses. I had hoses before.

This is how I had the hoses before with a t fitting in-between.

I changed up the filter on the egr spacer to clean it up some.

I also didn't point out before that you have to open up this hole to fit the tube through.

Before

After

Here is the AFE inverted top filter.

You dont have to buy the whole kit and can buy any section of tubing individually. I might have some left over but not sure yet what I will have.

Go to this page and click on the yellow button that says "download parts list"
http://www.airaid.com/U-Build-It_intake_systems.aspx

There is a hose connection on the back of the stock intake. I deleted that awhile ago.

i'm not sure. I think it says to measure the inside diameter of the vacuum tube to get the proper size.

that is a special part (not sure where to buy it though). It's a spacer with a barb fitting.

the top filter that's coming out of the valve cover, isn't that suppose to feed fumes/gases back into the intake? As in it's not drawing air (vacuum) but actually blowing air out of it.

And I really want to make one of these, well just a short ram actually, I can find the bend at lowes but I'm struggling to find a straight piece to go from the TB to the bend, I feel like it shouldnt be this hard to find. I do like the idea of the smaller filters

Yep. Was that hose for the air assist to runners? Hard to remember. I did an air assist delete where the runners are welded up and capped the hose connections. I did the tb coolant delete and IMRC delete also.

That is an egr spacer made by nva-av6. The egr normally recirculates dirty exhaust gases back into the intake for better fuel mileage I believe. That dirties up the intake manifold, tb, etc. You can just block the egr but it will have an engine light on the dash. That is where the spacer comes in. No exhaust gas recirculated and no check engine light on the dash. I also have an air/oil seperator(oil catch can). The inside of my tb and IM are spotless.

The top filter is crankcase ventilation.

You can find parts easy online. Are you trying to source them locally? That might be your problem.

The egr sends noncombustible air back into the combustion chambers to lower operating temperatures within the cylinders in effort to increase engine life and decrease nitrogen oxide levels under normal operating conditions. The egr shuts off at idle and wot conditions. From what I've learned and heard from those that have done the egr delete, they have noticed their water temp gauge sit just a tad higher than usual.

In case you're having a hard time finding the parts online, check out cxracing.com. I pieced my 4" intake for a total of roughly $70.

To those running the 4" intake do you notice a difference in throttle response and are you using the stock TB?

I just drove my car for the first time since intake install. My throttle response has always been instant. Did not notice a difference. Car seemed responsive and fast but 30 degree weather does that.

Only difference I could really notice is a little more noise from intake, but my exhaust is so loud in the cabin with no sound deadening it is hard to tell.

I have oem tb bored by maxbore.

It is much better than stock. I can't fully take advantage of it now though. I need to install my custom headers and exhaust to really make it worthwhile.

Keep in mind you want to match the flow going into the engine with the exhaust flow going out. My exhaust is a restriction atm.

I'm running the stock throttle body also. Throttle response is always quick like Brian said. Only difference I could tell was it was louder and pulls a little bit stronger. I also went from a smaller intake though because I have a tl-p

Yeah I was trying to find them locally, only looked in lowes really.

Thanks for the website, they got a lot of good stuff. Would it be recommended to use plastic over aluminum, and which one would be louder? Also do you use a 4" to 3" coupler at the tb?

Sorry for all the questions, I appreciate your answers

If you use metal it should heat up faster. With airaid kit it's thick plastic do it should keep the air cooler

I went out for a drive with the new 4" intake attached to my aem1 short ram (my less expensive version of the aem v2), and all I have to say is wow! The additional amount of power I felt from 6k to 7k rpms was definitely noticeable. This was in addition to PnP the runners and the intake manifold. I did the work myself, so anyone with a bit of time on their hands, I highly recommend PnP the runners and manifold when doing this mod.

The gap between running my car the way it was prior to doing this has been 1 year. So I can't account for any additional power from the lower rpms up to 6k as I honestly do not recall what it felt like. Again though, from 6k to 7k was something I know for a fact was an increase in power. The best way to describe the feeling as cheesy as it sounds, was the extra kick you would feel in the vtec crossover.

Plastic and aluminum both work fine. Some people would rather not have any plastic parts which I can understand. Aluminum typically looks better from a show car perspective. You can weld aluminum, whereas with plastic all you can use is couplers. Aluminum is a good conductor of heat which can be a negative for intake.

If I went aluminum it would cost more. I would have to pay a shop to weld so I wouldn't have to use extra couplers and clamps. Then I would drop it off at my powdercoater most likely. You can wrap either in heat reflective material or paint either with paint.

The way mine is you would never know whether it was plastic or metal. My car is on a weight diet so that is also important to me. My 4" plastic intake is very light.

For the tb use a 4" to 3" reducer. The tb is smaller than 3", just use a t-bolt clamp and tighten it down. I have no leaks.

Nice to hear your impressions cocoa. I drove mainly 3k-6k and didn't go over 6k much. Maybe I'll take it for another drive today.

A lot of places sell it and you have a lot of options.

I am using mishimoto gold tape. I also used some DEI floor and tunnel shield for my exhaust.

Some are better than others and can get very pricey. You can go with the gold or silver look.

Here is my version of the v2 intake using 4" piping reduced to the original aem v1 intake. I was running a short ram for 5+ years. So the difference in power was noticeable throughout the rpms and especially up high. This setup is in conjunction with the velocity stack air filter as opposed to a typical style air filter.

Just out of curiosity! Did anyone have any problems with humming noises from the 4" intake? Thanks!
