Yes you need to push the "up" and "down" buttons on the steering wheel to shift gears on IS300's E-shift, while we only play with the knob for our CL.

The buttons look ok when you're straight and level. But how about when you're cornering? It sounds like it could be tough to figure out which is which without looking.

the e-shift is pretty retarted in general.. when u put the car into manual mode it starts out at 5th gear, so you have to push the buttons down to 2nd gear yourself.. and like SS, you get no first gear control. i found the buttons pretty annoying and hard to get used to in my test drive.. is it that hard putting some paddles back there.. eh.

well one of the button is on front of the steering wheel and other is behind the steering wheel. So you cnat mistaken the buttons. But I personally hate it, my friend can never find the button when he corners fast.

Well, I think the E-shift was a good idea Lexus just didnt engineer good enough. When I had my old 01 IS300 with E-Shift cornering and shifting at the same time wasnt a problem for me but when you click the car into M it starts in 5th gear that anoyed me from time to time. I think Lexus should of put some paddles behind the wheel and have carbon fiber ones as an option.

I'd think that when corner fast, like through a switchback, it would get a bit ....interesting...

I guess I just prefer the stick because until the last car (Maxima) and this one (CLS) I've always driven a manual.
