I know alot of people in the industry and they all say the samething... I had a short ram and cold air in my previous car. The short ram doesnt go down like a cold air pipe does which means a cold air you get more AIR since its under. THere isnt a huge horsepower difference.. but cold air is the way to go.. Just spend a little more money and get it plus sound wise... not much difference.. its mostly all in the mind. Conclusion just get a cold air.

short ram
it is a short pipe with a cone filter hence the name short ram
pros easy to install and easy to maintain and almost no problem with hydrolocking.
cons:loud at WOT, gains are minimal due to sucking hot air coming from the engine bay
cold air intake or cai
a tube that extends further then a shortram usually down to the bottom part of the front bumper. longer tubing.
pros: better gains then a shortram due to sucking in higher oxygenated cooler air. quieter then the SR and has a nice growl at WOT
cons: possible ingestion of water from a large puddle of water or flood. water in the engine is hydrolock=broken engine!
aem has developed a bypass valve for the cai but when installed could hurt the performance of the intake.
if you want more hp go with the CAI!!! just dont drive in high flooded areas!!!
