FML.

Thats the passenger axle inner joint. As most of you know, there is supposed to be about a 3" spindle on that end. Where is it, you ask?

Right there!

I just drilled a hole into the center of it. Once my sister in law gets home I can take her van to pick up a lag bolt and the replacement axle.

This is the fourth axle in 2 years, third in three months. The first snapped in the center. The second and third ate up the bearings in the inner CVs, and now this.

Luckily it happened as I was pulling into the driveway. I gave it a little gas, got up to about 4k rpm, then POP - no power. At least it didnt leave me stranded this time.

Mods - Who do I contact for more info on starting a group buy feeler thread?

man that blows!. What type of axles were they? I was so afraid about having problems I decided to buy Acura ones if I kept the car. Of course that was also 1 reason i got rid of it as the cost of them plus install was $900.

Damn...maybe I just never had axle issues, but do you mind letting me know what you think is causing this issue you are having? In other words, why is the axle breaking so frequently for some of you? Is there something I should be watching for with my axles?

290whp/270wtq? Something like that. more then s/c on low boost.

I thought there was a member who had custom axles made once to handle like 500hp.

I've posted this a couple of times but for some reason it doesn't gain traction. I haven't had to replace mine since (2 years give or take) and I drive pretty hard on the blower.

So is it from the torque which doesn't seem THAT high or age/wear and tear? Something else to save for?

Exactly

Anyone that is having problems with breaking axles needs custom axles period. You will never have to worry about breaking them again. Problem solved!

400

I looked into the gator ones. But at the time no one was running them in this application. I didn't want to be the test mule. I'd try those now I know someone runs them.

The hole in the center is the one I drilled and tapped so I could pull it out of the intermediate shaft.

From what Ive heard, the bearings in their axles are no stronger than stock. But, I will give them a call though and find out some info regarding the racing axles.

Ill let you know. I need to find out how similar the CL axles and the 6th gen Accord axles are. If they are similar, I suspect a few more people would be interested.

Sticky tires, stiff suspension, stiff mounts, and stiff clutch. Something has to give. Id much rather break the tires loose though

I believe age had something to do with the first set I broke, since the shaft snapped. The set that broke in October were a little over a year old, and I broke those when I went WOT from a 40mph roll (trying to race two members on here). Its possible (and likely) that this one was defective. The split was just too damn clean.

What has been added for more power.

really surprised you got the shaft out with out something like a dent puller.

Is that custom stainless headers there in that pic.
I hope all the welds were grinded down on the inside.
Because if thats stainless,as ugly as the welds look on the outside is probally as ugly as it looks on the inside.

Function over form I can agree with to a point.
If the inside of the pipes look like the out side of the pipes at every joint what do you think that will do ?

If they were grinded on the insides then I agree,if not...

They are grinded on the inside. Hence my "dont judge a book by its cover" comment.

It's good to see that there was at least enough room for you to maneuver a drill under there.

Haven't had an issue with my CL but went through that with my Cobra. ISR wasn't built for pushing +600ft-lbs. Almost went solid rear.

The new engine with the knifed edge crank ?
What does the motor got.
Spining up the rpms faster will sure make you more prone to snap a rooni.

the biggest reason they break alot is that you lower the car that much so the axle actually works at different angles that it was designed to... also power adders suspension and good tires... breaking an axle is not fun and im not talking about towing and fixing the car so you can drive again but 6 speeders must be carefull and really better save up for custom axles because when it breaks you can damage differential bearings in your tranny... some of us have an experience on that already

here's mine

Yes, Id love to get DSS axles, but at $900 for a set, its a bit pricey. I am going to contact them about doing a group buy though. The Gator Racing guys dont like to return phone calls, so I doubt theyll get my business.
