Dealer's offer to buy my CL was a joke!

IF you check out the "black market" section, you'll see that I'm trying to find someone to assume my lease. I love the car, but I'm buying a house and a boat in the spring. I need a truck to pull the boat. Anyhow... I went the the jeep dealer and they called an Acura dealer who said they would give me 24k. The trade in value according to kelly blue book is $26,600. My actual lease payoff is about 28k. That would put me 4k in the hole!

The can go fly a kite...

What do you guys think about 24k when it books at 26k trade-in?

kelly blue book doesnt mean anything. Its a reference that bears nothing on actual market value. If you look at kbb you should ALWAYS knock a minimum of 2gs off their price and thats about what a dealer will give you if not less.

You also sound buried in your car, so you are going to take a hit no matter what. sorry bro, happens to most people.

Hmm... 24K, I think I'd take 24K for my CLS 6spd w/ 10K miles on it [1]. Price sounds ok to me. Heck, last month someone posted that they bought a non-navi brand newfor 27K and change. IIRC someone else bought a navi CLS for 29K.

When you drive a car off the lot, you have to expect to lose at least a couple of grand right off the bat. Add a couple thousand miles on the car. Bingo, 24K range.

Alot of the online price guide values have to be taken w/ a grain of salt (kkb, edmunds, etc). They are not gospel, and now we're talking about a discontinued car (a great car still, but a discontinued car none the less). The dealers don't use the blue book, but some other book (there's a yellow, and a couple of other color "books").

[1] it's been a bad week for me car wise, let's just say I need to get some bodywork estimates Damn parking lot dings

most dealers follow "Galves Guide" which is released monthly. I have found Galves is usually 2000 less then KBB or Edmunds

Don't believe what any dealer tells you. The only price the dealer will ever give you on ANY car is the wholesale price plus whatever they'd take off the new car anyway -- and that is the top price they'll pay -- if they can get you to accept less they're ahead of the game. Most trade ins go straight to auction, only a few hit their lot.

There's a guy from the DC area selling his 03 6spd w/ 22K miles for $23.9K.

Even tho' there haven't been that many 03's resold as used cars it looks like 24 is the market price.

Thanks much!!! Looks like I'll have to find someone to take-over my lease for $450, I think that is at least a good deal.

these cars have lost their value quick. For example my 1st gen is a 99 w/ 60K on it. KBB says it's worth 14. NO WAY IN HELL WILL I GET ANYWHERE CLOSE TO THAT. They are trading at dealer auction for 9-10K!
