Dealer says front motor mount gone - I don't see an issue..

I took my car to the local Acura stealership the other day and after finishing some work, they told me that my front motor mount needs replaced.

I told them to shove off after getting the $550 quote. When I got the car home, I popped the hood and didn't notice anything leaking out of the mount or anything odd about it...

How can I tell if it truly needs replaced??

LOL... pretty common thing to go out on our rides.... mine need to be changed ( I drive a 2001 CLS)... all of mine are shot!
Opinions vary... but you definitely lose power with the engine moving in relation to the rest of the drivetrain... anyhoo... do a search and you will get more info than you will ever need!

Price seems a little steep.. You may want to shop around. I had my front and side done at the dealer for slightly more than that.

front mount is like 100 +/- from acuraoemparts.com my mechanic wanted 50 bucks for replacing it. and now u can compare 150 ok lets say 170 to 550$ from dlr or even etter u can do it yourself its easy

I don't think they lied to you, its usually gets bad. But $550 is a lot. I was quoted $500, and then I went to my mechanic and had it done for $250 including part. Don't know how they come up with this price, the labor is only 1 hour, most can do even faster. Part is $120-150. So even at dealer rates, don't see how this can cost more than $250....

yes I just had my front mount replace when my tranny was getting rebuilt a month ago and it only had a litttle crack in it... but for 150 i got the part from the dlr and had my guy out it in for free since it was all apart anyways.it's definately stiffer now.. cause i can feel a lil move vibration coming from the motor at idle when in park. If it's looks pooched it's prolly worse than that. mine could only be identified because it was out of the car.

Shop around for the best install price and get the part and be done with it. You prolly will notice a lil difference too

I am not going to sift through 13 pages of the Innovative Mounts thread - how do I perform the standing motor mount test?

Thanks!

hmmm i have 131k on my car and I beat the shit out of it weekly and have no problems with my motor mounts, honestly I would wait until it actually breaks.

I know that sounds messed up but dealers have a new thing now, and that is the time they quote you on doing the work is usually 5 times longer than it takes.

put the car in drive, engage e-brake, hold the brake, rev the engine a little (about 2-3k) and do the same for reverse.

the engine shouldnt move much. might want a buddy to help look for you.

Its very stupid to do what you just mentioned. Odds are yours are completely shot (as you put it broke).

If you have more than 50k on the motor odds are its shot. These things are good for about 40k.

40K sorry I would have to disagree. I still have the rear and the passenger side mount original. I'm at 60K miles and they are mint.

Maybe for all the cl's that have been driven hard from day one...yea , 40K. But I treat this baby real good. And I save the WOT for when the time is right. Not all the time.

So the car will run hard!!!! forever!
