Is DC the way to go?

K so I am dying to get some frigging headers on this beast and I need some input.

I was gonna wait till next year to get me a new set of comptech's but excelerateperformance.com has the 3 bolt flange DC sport headers for like $400 shipped. so.. almost 3 times the price comptech headers are.

Here is my 2 main concers about NOT going with comptech.

- people have said they hear a hissing noise after header installation (dunno if this was with dc also but I'm not sure)

- most headers when they meet up with the flanges they don't match up FLUSH. IE the air isn't free flowing so you'd not get the same power

Can someone please enlighten me on these issues.

I hear the headers can net you about 30hp at certain rpms, which is what I want.

Anyone know the actual HP increase at max???

thanks guys!

I've owned both a CL-P and a CL-S 6 speed (current). The headers (I did OBX) on the CL-P made a HUGE difference in the power on tap. I did not notice this quite so much on the CL-S-6, but I also did a $125 stainless, dual flex pipe, ebay header. They seem to be built about as well as the OBX were, and assembled in much the same fashion.

There are header clearance issues on the CL-S that I did not see on the CL-P, but I'm comparing a 6 speed with an auto. The front bank mates up the the J pipe fine, but the front 90 in the J pipe and the front part of the crossmember in the subframe don't play so nice together. It causes an annoying rattle at certain RPMs.

I was able to use a die-grinder and file a groove into the subframe where the welds meet to remove the rattle, without compromising strength.

I don't think you can go wrong with the comptechs - they are the mold. The OBX I had on the auto had a kind of buzzing sound where the bend in the J pipe around the oilpan would vibrate under load.

damn... note to self then... bring a grinder and diamond blade with me when my buddy installs the headers so i can assure proper clearance.

You'd think they'd have that figured out...

So if/when i buy dc headers it's a 50/50 whether or not i'll have to grind a lil off the car to make way. Thanks for that tip... rattles are my pet peeve

dc headers are great quality and fit. just like comptechs but cheaper, yet give the same gain and both are ceramic coated. i had no fitment issues or hissing with my 1st gen dc sports

Out of all the people that had Comptech Headers...I only remember hearing a couple of people who had issues with their headers.

One person (Maybe it was Renegade) blew a hole in the weld...

So he simply went to an exhaust shop and they re-welded the hole.

Problem solved...

Since XS doesnt sell headers anymore and if you dont want to wait for a set of used headers (CT, DC or XS) then I would go with the DC headers. For 400 bucks though, you could pick up a set of CTs for about 200 bucks more. Those are the only 3 brands of headers I would run on my car.

Get em! I've had my XS on for over a year, through the winter and they've been great. I wrapped the flex pipe and there isn't a hissing. Hit Vtec once they're on and you'll love it even more.

best mod for the car is headers. no other mod can yield you approx 30hp for the price.

Are you too lazy to read the thread you are posting in?

There are numerous posts saying DC are great and less than 1/2 of Comptech.

I have the DC Sports and could not be happier.

lol... i'm debating between tossing down 400 canadian for p2r plenums off a member on here or getting the headers and say w/e.

It would be nice but still 400 for 2 pieces of aluminum that only get you 8tq and hp with my set up is nothing special.

DC headers are though... and on ebay a guy has 10 of them, the new ones. He's got the old picture but the part code is correct and he said they're the 3 bolt flange.

so... i may have to say no unless i can get the plenums for 300.. then that's more reasonable in my mind.

in two weeks when i have enough, i'm buying one or the other

The 09 IM made almost as big a difference as the headers, together the car is transformed.

No.

The Manifold is 350.00, adapter and thermal gasket is 85.00. If you also want the bored throttle body that is another 100-200 depending on if you bore yours or buy one from P2R.

As for kinks mine is 100% functional with no issues.

I know the IM was about $400 but didnt u have to spend more to fit the TB on, I thought it costed around $900 when everything was said and done..
I also missed the part about getting the butterfly valve to open at a certain RMP, and I have been reading that thread!

I DO LOVE that mod and if it was $400 For EVERYTHING i would consider it.
Do you know if the TB spacer from outlaw engineeing and ther longer studs would work with the 09 IM?

Why do people that have not done things insist on making incorrect statements?

This is the last time I am saying this.

I paid 350.00 for the manifold & 85.00 for the adapter & gasket. That is all you really need if you also want the TB you can get it but it is not needed.

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/possible-new-mod-728942/

That thread has all the information you need to do this, the wiring diagram for the butterfly is there.

If you don't want to do it I do not care if you do I will try to help but until there is actually an issue needing an answer to a question I will not waste any more time.

if you are going to spend 500 bucks on some oem shocks just for the rears, why not just buy a coilover setup for another 300 bucks and do all 4 while you are under the car?

Just makes no sense to replace your stock shocks when you are planning to get something else later on, waste of money.

yea but i don't DON'T wanna sacrifice ride quality for coilovers, nor do i want to lower it that much cause of winter up here.

yes it makes sense to do all 4 but then I'm into a bunch of other problems..

well. if these ones work

http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEX-Coilover-1998...3%3A1|294%3A50

i'd buy them but no one knows if they're good or what and people say they are stiff which i do not want.

And K sports I love but they are stiff as hell also even on soft.. I had them on my previous car.

I'm gonna think about this one for a while until i'm dead certain what to do..
