Daytime Running Lights - Bulb

The Canadian version of the CLS has daytime running lights that come on as soon as the emergency brake is released. My assumption is that these are just the high beams with a lower voltage run through them - does anyone know for sure? A couple of follow-on questions:

- if this is the case and I change the bulbs to a set of PIAA ultra whites, will there be any problems
- if it is a separate bulb, does anyone know a manufacturer/model that will work

Thanks in advance

Daytime running lights are electronically pulsed. This gives them a lower power usage and does not wear out the bulb. A similar bulb with higher rating might affect the electronic circuits. A minor change should be OK. I work for Tyco Electronics Automotive Division, and we make a lot of the components for the modules.

It runs off the high-beam bulb, you'll be fine swapping it out but you may not want to up the wattage like he just said-

Thanks for the responses. I'm not looking to up the wattage; I just want to move to a whiter light - closer to what the low beams look like. Based on a number of other threads, I was going to go with the PIAA 19615 Extreme White Plus Bulbs.

Colored bulbs don't come out the same appearance with the daytime runninglights on, even though they look different when they are on full. The lower intensity is less "white" than when the high beams are on.

By the way, I wanted to get a daytime runninglight "kit" for my CL, but found out it was the entire wire harness (too expensive to replace). This is the first thread I've seen regarding the DRLs, goodluck with your lights-

Old DOT regulations "limit" the amount of light a vehicle can have during the day.

Plus, Americans are so stupid when it comes to DRLs b/c they don't turn on their REAL lights when it gets dark, hence, no rear lights either.

I can't count the number of times I see van, VWs, etc. running around with just their DRLs on at 10pm.

damn that looks so good. I would put yellow bulbs in there or convert them to 6000k HID or 3500k HID (I think yellow if used in contrast w/6000k headlights looks sooooo sick.)

There has got to be a way to easily convert to DRL without replacing the whole harness. I know I could get my fogs to cut on w/out the headlights on my 1st gen TL by just connecting two wires... Also I know a lot of the guys w/Legends have their running lights come on to act as DRL. Anyone interested in this?

they are there to make your car more visable bc the lights attract your attention more. also so when people forget to turn on their lights on at dusk or dawn others will see you.

I just pulled my fuse.
