damn jonesi... im sorry to hear/see what happened to your CT springs.. seeing as this happened to your springs, wouldn't it be a good idea to go with springs from another company, such as H&R? just my two cents..

Despite the problems and how I still trust Comptechs quality.. This is only like the 2nd or 3rd case.. Maybe I'm bias b/c I work in Quality Control but I'll still go with them..

HOLY CRAP MAN !!!
Those look like something that came off a 72 Dodge Dart that’s been sitting in the junkyard since 1980.
My CL-S gets driven in the beautiful Pennsylvania winters through salt, slush & brine.
Last time I looked at my Comptech Springs, they had some minor surface rust.
Next time I wash it I’m gonna jack it up and have a closer look at the springs with my shop light.

That is unbelievable. I'm surprised your didn't notice any ride height difference. I'm also suprised they didn't fall off when they broke. What was holding them together still?

With springs like that, I would've thought the car would bottom out and just stay there.

And if the shocks alone were holding the car off the ground, depending on the mileage & timeframe, they probably need to be replaced too.

I called Comptech and asked about this issue. Nate said that early on they had problems with the folks who were doing the powder coating. He said the folks now doing the powder coating are doing it well and rusting should not happen. Still makes me wonder because factory springs can last decades.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a set of Comptech springs, but now I'm rethinking the idea.

If this is true, they should be paying to replace the springs, shocks and all associated labor even if they are out of the warranty period
This should NOT happen in 4-years on the road.

Nate was very candid. Said some of the earlier sets are prone to "chipping". Once the powder coating is off, I guess there is nothing protecting the metal.

What’s considered “early”?
Is there any kind of date code we can check on the box?

Mine were purchased/installed in spring 2002 and they’re definitely showing surface rust.

Not sure exactly what "early" means. I would suggest if someone knows the guys at Comptech, to ask them for more information. I'm very hesitant to get Comptech springs now.

Well I noticed surface rust on my springs and I only have 15K on my car... I think it is time I make a phone call to Comptech and get this taken care of now.

Damn that pic is crazy. My dad had an '88 Acura Legend with over 250k on the odometer and he sold it to a neighborhood kid and the spring on the front passenger side finally broke this past spring. Thats 16 years of being driven all the time before one spring broke!

I only have about 10K miles on my Tein SS coilovers, but they've been driven through the winter salt/sand, and they're still black. No signs of rust or anything.

Hopefully if this is Comptech's fault they will own up to it and fix those who have been effected.

Mine were installed early this year but I've had them since late last year. I'm hoping that the problem was fixed

I still haven't looked under there.. Kind of scared to.. The ride height is still the same.. But I did verify it through another mechanic.. Both mechanics were extremly shocked.. And the fact the car is still riding pretty decent..

Yes, this isn't going to be cheap.. Although both mechanics said the shocks are holding up fine and have no sign of leakage..

I am the second owner of the car and I know the original owner when the car came out in 01 he had springs put on right awway so I'd say they are from the original batch or pretty close.

I agree and pushed that fact.. But I had no resolution at all through their customer service.. I must say that the have excellent customer service even though I'm not satisfied with the end result..

I’m gonna jack mine up this weekend and check all four springs out real good.
If I find anything “interesting” or alarming, I’ll take some photos so we can discuss.

2nd bad response i've heard from customer service at comptech. My buddy bought their sprigns for his RSX and the whole car was uneven. Comptech took back the springs but IMO they should of paid for his install costs, cost him over $500!!!

They should definately give you ATLEAST A FULL REFUND

althought it sounds like you werent' the original buyer
