concerned new owner
after reading many posts on this forum...i'm starting to become concerned with all the problems i'm hearing about the actuator and the transmission so i have two simple (or so i hope) questions: how do i know if the actuator isn't working properly and how can i tell if my transmission is messed up? please help thanks

Jesus, another paranoid user.
Remove the large black engine cover (4 10mm bolts.) Start car, bring to NOT (normal operating temperature.) Rev engine by hand with the TB (throttle body) connecting arm. When you raise the engine RPM above 3800, you'll see the secondary intake butterfly operate on the right hand side of the intake manifold (passenger side.) If it doesn't move, you IMRC actuator is broke (more than likely not.)
As for the transmission, you'll know when it craps out. Strange dash indicators (check engine, VSA, etc), and irratic tranny behavior.
