Comptech Update!!!
Hey Everyone. Back home from 2wk anniversary trip with my wife to Yellowstone, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Lake Tahoe, avg. 2 different tanks at 32.3 and 32.7 gal. with over 400lbs. of passengers and loaded heavy trunk. Stopped and toured Comptech Machine in Eldorado Hills and had some highly provocative talks with several techs! Want to hear more?

Ok! Here goes dudes and dudetts! This is what I was told by Shad one of Comptech's PR people. They had 03' 6sp. with supercharger installed and running! Told it dynoed at 305rwhp! But and thats the problem is that they are not totally happy with the output of the supercharger with the automatic due to the big loss of power through the auto trans. They are aware of the autos. problems and recommend a tranny cooler which they will package and sell in neighborhood of 100. They feel the cooling down tranny will help 95% of the problems we are now experiencing! Over last couple weeks I've heard ready dates of October,November. I was told due to complexities of getting it right the first time it will be December! I asked so we can expect to have it ready to ship by XMAS and they said yes "it will make a nice XMAS present! Wow what a facility Comptech is! Racing engines all over the place in various stages of build. We're talking Indy Race engines, NSX's being built. Had one with a 10,000 dollar supercharger. I could go on but its getting late. So thats it in a nutshell. The supercharger is going to become available but people we must be patient cause Comptech wants to get it right the first time.

No bubble bursted here. Just relating the most updated info as of today 9/23. Was told dyno on 6sd. was 305hp. Superleggera wheels are 18's on 225/40/18. At idle with S/C and Comptech mufflers couldn't tell diff with my stock mufflers. Encouraged Shad that we would like to see as much hp as reasonable. He went into quite a speech about reliability and auto trans. I did some math of my own from what he said and hope for approx. 272rwhp! with headers of course.

Oh yeah-koni yellows with clip on lower perch so Comtech springs were very low in front and about the same as my stock wheels and tires in back. My Eibachs are a little lower in the rear than front and looks so cool!

If that number is accurate, which I think it is, the supercharger doesnt do jack for the price IMO.

Not to nit pick but Shad is a very capable engineer. He was also a crew chief on a racing team.
only 272 to the wheels? ummm...no thanks. Did he give you any torque #s???

you nuts?? that's nearly 40HP accross the powerband and they haven't even mentioned the most important gains.........TORQUE!!!! With a 30-40ftlb increase our cars will be dipping into the mid 13's. You people are crazy........

Well, I think we could muster-up the 270 at the wheels on a 6spd WITHOUT the S/C - entirely doable. I think they (Comptech) are a little reserved on the boost due to the high compression (10.5:1) of these motors. I think with some head/manifold work, 340 at the wheels is possible. If it only puts out 305, its probably not worth it!
Say a stock 6spd (with Headers) puts out 245. That's only 60 more at the wheels (pk-pk match). There are possibly points where this delta might near 90hp (at certain rpms). Anyways...
just ad a 100hp NOS kit... should run better!

While n2o is certainly cheaper there's the hassle of filling the bottle and a minor detail that's it's illegal (except for off road use) in Cali. So when are you going to do it??

N2O legality
Nitrous plumbed into your car does not make it legal (CA highways or off-road).... as long as the bottle is not connected.
So... just connect it at the track.
BTW... if you are ever pulled over and the cop decides to look into your hood and if you have a S/C... he's going to bust you no matter what paperwork you have saying it passes emissions or
is C.A.R.B certified!!
N2O is harder to see... by the way!!

Personally they cant look under your hood if you know your rights, well i'm not sure about california but they have to have probable cause to search your car to tell them no. In addition i doubt a cop knows what a s/c looks like.

Unfortunateley the California cops tend to know a little 'too much' about our cars!! They know what an aftermarket intake, exhaust, turbo, S/C, Nos, name it!! Some of these officers think the stock exhaust is an aftermarket one, because newer models have pretty well-sized exhaust tips.

Yeah California really has become a pile of shit legislation.
It's sad when the state that originated hot rods and supe-ing up cars gets full of hippies and liberal environmentalists who have turned it into the worst place in the world for automotive enthusiasts.

I have been pulled over for impeding traffic (35mph in a 40mph) zone AND given a ticket for a graduation tassle hanging on my rear-view mirror. This was several years ago... but its an example of California PD mentality!

Nitrous Oxide and Emissions
Use of nitrous oxide (N2O) doesn't necessarily increase the oxides of nitrogen (NOx) that pollute the air. Of course, NOS makes "race only" systems that are not legal for use on pollution controlled engines. However, many NOS systems have received certification for 50-state emissions legal use in the United States. The approvals for use on emissions controlled vehicles were obtained by independent laboratory testing which proved that these NOS systems do not increase tailpipe emissions in normal driving conditions. We recommend only emissions legal nitrous kits for use on engines subject to emissions and regulations

One of the biggest problems is:
Not just saying "meet this or that emission standard", but HOW to do it and what can go on or off the car to make it happen.
I was in a situation where they wanted a "factory" part that caused the car to "blow" the emissions back on the car, in lieu of a "non-approved" part that allowed the car to pass... What a pisser… (Regs come first...)
Example: if you brought a modified CLS into a smog station and blew all zeros, the morons would still "fail" the car if it had any: stock factory smog parts removed (without specific EO waiver); if it had any aftermarket parts without the CARB EO number; or if it had any modifications that were "visible" that indicated "tampering"...
(All of this irrespective of the end-result... there are a number of less NAZI states that simply want to know if the car is clean or not...)

Theres always a risk you assume when you modify your car. More mods may equate to more fines. It depends on how big of an ass the officer is and your luck.

Wouldn't it be cool if the supercharger kit magically made the car rear wheel drive? RWHP... Wow. This would truly be a kick ass car if it was rear wheel drive. A Mustang killer it would be.
