Yeah, Firemen use it to change lights at intersections they're gonna run through.

Yeah it only works if it's installed...so don't expect it to work everywhere. I think for that money and no guarantees on where it will work, I can wait the minute for the light to change.

Works almost no where(something like 1% or less of all lights have this technology) and most states are enacting laws that make it illegal to possess one if you are not an emergency employee.

I work right near a hospital and I pass by it every day.
They use those traffic signal devices on the lights between the nearest highway exit and the ambulance entrance.
When they’re activated, there is a bright white light that shines only in the direction of the ambulance to signal that the intersection is blocked and safe to pass through.
You have to be alert when driving through there because sometimes the light turns GREEN-then immediately goes yellow-then RED as the ambulance approaches from a cross street.

I think it should be a 500,000 dollar fine and loss of your license for 10-years for anyone STUPID enough to buy one of those things for private use.
Then again, if two guys with the device approach one intersection from different directions at the same time it should take care of the problem pretty quickly.

Huh i thought those things were only in the movies. But you could always get out of your car and press those pedestrian crossing buttons.

Yeah it would be pretty easy for a cop to tell if someone was using one.

we have those lights in my neighborhood....just as described above. The device to change the lights was just made illegal in IL this year.

Those only work on the old school basic ones. You are SOL with that on the new coded ones. The real transitters are $1500+.

Those triggers are all over Southeastern PA. Basically, it looks like a flashlight on top of every crossbar supporting the lights. I had been seeing them for 3 or 4 years and couldn't figure out what they were, until I saw one in action about 3 weeks ago, when first a fire truck used one, and then about 30 seconds later an ambulance tripped the same one. Kind of cool, but not really practical for normal driver use, is it? Unless you're the only one at the red light, you're going to have to slow almost to a stop anyway.

Yea, it looks almost like a camera and that’s what a lot of people think they are.
But it’s a super-bright white bulb inside the end of a long tube so you can’t see it from the sides.
