Cold Weather Start up Knock 0w-20?
Its been extremely cold here in NYC this past month. I have been noticing a knock when I start up the car in the morning, just for a couple of seconds. I recently did an oil change with Mobil 1, 5w-20, still hear the knock on the start up. Should I switch over to 0w-20 until the spring? I saw heeltoe has published an 0w-20 application guide. Is anyone running 0w-20? Anyone else getting this knock on cold days?

It was minus 18c this morning when I started the car it was making a not so nice sound. I should have plugged in my block heater. But yea it's normal. When anything is minus 18 its not going to sound the same. As long as the car sound fine once its warmed up, shouldn't b worrying about it pal

im running 5w30 in my built 3.7 and it was -20f and mine was silent. You may be in need of a valve adjustment. If it goes away right away i wouldnt be to concerned. Its cold and takes a slight bit longer to reach every part

our oil pump is positive displacement type so lack of flow on cold mornings is not an issue. Change your oil more frequently in the winter time as it tends to break down quicker due to longer time on open loop operation.
coldest that it got was -28F in MN, car started with little issues and no noises when running. also let the car run for a minute or two before taking off. 133K on the engine.
