CLS: Overall good or bad?

Im buying my cls with in the next month, but i would like to know the good things and bad things about this car. Anything information would be helpful. From what I do know:

GOOD: fast, looks tite, and its a CL that says enough.

Bad: Tranny problem.....

anything else?

thanks....

yea theres a major problem with it....your entire live is going to be disrupted, because when you're not driving it, you'll be thinking about driving it. Take my advice and stick to heroin...much less addictive than driving the cls

If auto tranny you will love it unless you get a defective tranny which is covered for 7 years 100k miles. If you get 6 speed you will love it even more unless you live in the city and stuck in traffic all the time.
The car is absolutely great from the radio to the climate control it is rock solid. The suspension is independent so you will have a decent suspension stock but I highly recommend the Comptech springs. What sold me and I still think to this day is the powered heated seats, yes they are the most comfortable seats in any car even the MB and BMW look it up everybody knows it. The wheels are the best looking wheels in 17" that I have seen now Im only taliking about the 01' and 02' the 03' are just alright.

Overall the car is a great ride and yes you will truly love driving it. I got so addicted to the performance of the car that I forgot that its suppose to be a luxury car and not a race car There are not many aftermarket parts for the car but what you get from Comptech will give you exactly what you want if more performance is waht your looking for. In my opinion make the Comptech Ice-Box your first mod there is abolutely no drawbacks from this intake its quiet as stock but a nicer growl at Vtec and you will get more power and save gas. Sorry but I can keep writing all night but I'll let somebody else tell you what they think. Congrates on your purchase and looking forward to seeing you on the boards 2 thumbsup for my review

Later

Lou

A big one for me is the sheet metal, its extremely thin and dents very easily....pisses me off in a major way.

Also, rattles in cars are not uncommon in cars (especially ones that cost $30k). But I have never owned a car that has had the number of interior rattles my CL has.

Other than that, I never had a tranny issue (yet anyway) and my paint has literally no chips in it, Gold held up very well.

I still haven't had a permanent rattle in my 2003.

Thin sheet metal is common among most modern cars. Of course you can get a Saturn if that's a real concern.

My 2003 is quiet and fast. I have power when I need it and the interior is great. Comfortable seats, good handling for front-wheel drive, though I can see the need for the thicker anti-sway bars. I give it a definite thumbs up.

Good: Bang for the buck the CL kills anything in the 28-31K
range.
Only thing that comes close is a heavily discounted IS300
deal if you can find it.

Bad: Big ass turn radius
Tranny (you get lots of warnings, tho - just be aware of it)
Low moddability.
Paint is water based so it is weak (it's pretty much water
based on ALL cars these days though).

I have had no rattles at all.
The car is wonderful. IMHO, the tranny risk is still worth taking considering equivalent setups for other brands will cost you about 5-6K more.

I agree with pretty much everything posted so far...

I LOVE my CL-S

Wish it had a tighter turning radius, but other than that, I'm happy.

And I have a 6spd, do hopefully no tranny (or clutch) problems in the foreseable future.

Despite the fact that my baby's at the dealer awaiting tranny #3, I love my CL-S!! It's comfortable as shit, looks good (will look better dropped), and it's a pretty good base to mod. If you can, get a 6-speed, though. It'll be faster and it'll be more fun, IMO. I wish I could get a 6-speed.

Everyone that has posted has already said what needs to be said. The car is quick, comfy, and looks great. I don't have any rattle problems in my car even after adding the springs and sways. The mod-fever will get you though....it got most of us here!

As for dents, so far, so good. I park in places that either have extra space or no cars around to avoid dents. Sometimes that can't be avoided though. The paint chips really easily too...after 5-6 months of having my car, I have 2 nasty chips in the paint. Winter time is brutal here in the BOston area since they sand the roads so chips are going to happen.

Good luck!!!

good - awesome power, amenities, price, looks.

bad - auto tranny = shit, way, way, waaaay to many rattles for a 30k luxo car, stock stereo speakers not very good......6 disc changer is nice, but the speakers pretty much suck

The CLS is a rock solid car. Yeah, so it has a tranny issue, but it's covered. I personally don't think the stock stereo is bad at all. I don't know too many manufactures that put in a GREAT OEM stereo without making the customer paying BIG bucks. For what we were given, I think it's great.

One thing I love about the CL is taking a nice crusing drive in it. Just push the seat back and relax. Car is so smooth at highway speeds, so quiet, and damn if I wanna pass at 90+mph, NO PROBLEMO.

The CL/TL is a GREAT car where they're priced.

I did forget to mention a downside- the paint clearcoat is pretty cheap, and scratches very easily.

Where are you in Cali? I'm going to be selling mine within the next month and I can hook you up with a great deal on a low mileage car.

Hmm...bad? My Tranny dying at 21K

My rotors warping (twice)
My rear deck where the speakers are vibrating like a rickety footbrige (twice)

Other than that...I loved the car, but since the tranny went, I have felt differently...like someone fucked my girlfriend in the butt and sent her back to me

The car looks great , but mechanicly a piece of sh*t , I have 26K on mine and the plactic dash rattles like no other and the back speaker covers rattle on the high way, and the auto tranny is a real piece of work, I would never buy the car again in auto!! Go six speed and hopefully you won't have the problems, But your dash still might rattle , good luck

Good: Power, Quiet ride, Great seats, Overall a great value for the $$

Bad: Tranny, Rattles, Brakes (mine warped and have the feel of stepping on marshmallows), Radio has NO bass (easily fixed though), paint could be better

Styling is subjective...

A great highway cruiser, but way too easy to go WAY over the speed limit
