Here's a reminder to all those people who have aftermarket rubber mats, Acura or otherwise:

I've got the Acura rubber mats for the front and after I washed my car I didn't really make sure to secure the mats by way of the small plunger that goes through a hole in the front of the mat connected to the floor.

So its about 5:30 or so and I’m driving down a usually busy road (Jerusalem Ave) when I gun it coming out of a turn onto this road when I realize I have to slow down. I take my foot of the gas only to have the car continue to accelerate. After a microsecond of me going I hit the brakes and could feel the car fighting to slow down. Obviously the mat was caught underneath the brake pedal but the rest was resting on top of the accelerator. The gas was only being held down like 1/4 of the way so I was able to quickly kick the mat off the pedal and I pulled over.

I was very close to ramming the car ahead of me though. Luckily there was nobody to the side or behind me so I was able to cut left into the other lane and then after I got it loose pull over.

So guys after you clean your cars or have them cleaned at a car wash make sure those mats are tightly secured. Its not a fun experience if they ain't.

Glad you kept your cool and acted quickly. Those holes in the Acura mats are a tight fit, You've really gotta press them onto the post. I always have a tough time pulling them out without scraping the back of my hand on the plastic seat front.

Good to know the Acura mats have a hole to secure them. I guess I'll get them instead of the Mac Neils I usually get.

Nice Save!!!

Good call Chaptorial .I have seen an incredible number of mats scrunched up under the gas pedals or brake pedals causing all sort of problems .

No the mats are fine. They're the genuine Acura ones you can buy at your dealership. I just didn't make sure that the peg was secured through the whole in the mat.

BTW after i talked to my pops and thought about it, the best thing to do in this situation would have been to immediately shift into neutral and then deal with mats. Didn't think of that either however i was to busy shiting myself.
