CL-S v. 3000GT

Just wondering... The Mitsubisi 3000GT seems like it would whoop us in the turns. It's so much lower and is definatly a sports car, ours is a coupe. What about accelleration? How do these two cars compare?
I'm asking, because I just got back from the store and I saw one. He didn't want to race, he wasn't driving like a nut, just a bit fast. My no-race policy stands. Why race, when I can just ask on here?

If its the SL youd whoop it. If its the VR4 it would be a race. Ive taken out two SL's in my Legend and you have 30Hp on me.

If you just want 0-60 times go to edmunds or another car site and they usually have that stuff on there. I do remember however the 3000gt being extremely heavy for a sports car.

Please have a crane drop on my car so I have to buy a new CL-S. But wait till I'm not in the car. Thanks

In the corners the 3000GT would have the advantage. Now if you had springs and better tires... I am sure that would make it about even. Now if you are going against a VR-4 model, you can forget it. The car use to wear 245's all around, had 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, active aero.... and was extremely low to the ground. The downside of all these gadgets was that it added alot of weight. I believe the car use to weigh close to 3800 pounds. But note that this is only for the VR-4 model. The SL models were only front wheel drive, so the weight was drastically lower.... around 3300 pounds.

As far as straight line.... I don't remember exact numbers... but the later SL's I think had 222 hp and the VR-4 had 320 hp. The SL had a 5 speed and the VR-4 a 6 speed... and I am sure that the SL could put up a very good fight against a CL-S. I remember 0 - 60's for the SL being in the low 6's... and for the VR-4 being in the low 5's.

I still think the VR-4 was a very impressive car.... especially 0 - 30.

yeh i always liked the 3000gt but i heard its built like a caddi, cause it ways so damm much. I love the spider model and man that thing was cool and fast also. i bet the sl model would be a great fight and we would probally get tourched by a 320 hp VR4.

The only VR4 we could beat would be the VR4 sipder, Since it was a conv hard top there was an additional 300lbs added to the weight of the car for the motors that drive the top and they had to make the car longer for the trunk to hold the top. Although the car is badazz we may be able to take it with a close call and some mods.

Just looked at edmunds.com and the SL looks like a slooooooooooow 8.5 seconds for the 0-60. and the VR4 does not handle well cuz ofit sweight/bulk

I really don't think 3kGTs are that fast. I have raced a SL with my previous car (a lightly modded Camry) and I beat him to 60. Another buddy of mine has a VR4 and went head-to-head against his dad's 2000 CL500 (0-60 in 5.9-6.2s). He got beat everytime. I think we have a better chance (especially with some headers) against a CL500.

If I'm not mistaken VR4's and TT Stealths are somewhere in the low 5's. They are AWD cars. Early models were 5 speed mannys later were 6 speed mannys. Weight is a little more than CL S but with 320 hp and AWD and a manual TT's and VR4's should outrun the CLS with a decent driver.

The SL's or bases do look different from the VR4's. I can't describe them to you but they do look a little different. They're about 8-9 second cars. Only 222-225hp FWD.

My previous car was a 1994 3000GT SL. I loved that car. Unfortunatly a 14 year old thought it would be cool to "borrow" it while I was at work

http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Ca...73/3000GT.html

Needless to say I was never able to drive it ever again.

The 3 different models of the 3000GT varied only with major differences in the engine and minor in the interior. My model (SL) had 220hp. The base model was less hp, in around 160hp. The VR4 had an awesome 320hp. I drove one of those and it cranks! Not sure exactly what it could and couldn't beat.

The body styles in most years for each model never changed. 1st generation (1991-1993)2nd generation (1994-1996) 3rd generation and final(1997-1999). The 1999 VR4 models had a different spoiler. You can only tell the difference when you see it from behind and see the "SL" or "VR4" tag on the bumper.

The base model 3000GT would be an easy beat if racing especially if its an automotic. I honestly think that the "SL" model (5-speed)would give the CL-S a fight. The VR4 smokes most cars on the road.
