CL-S stock whp?

Used a ghetto ass gG-Tech monitor (no $$$ for dynoruns) to measure whp in the '01 bone stock CL-S.

Basically, it plugs into your cigarette lighter, you do some calibrating, enter the weight of the car, and it measures your hp and torque output by measuring electrical changes in the car. (I guess.). Hahaha.

Anyways. Ran down Sepulveda (For the LA dudes), and got a reading of 211.9whp @ 6062rpms, and 191.6 tq @ 5316. I entered down the weight of the car @ 4500lbs.

I know this is an extremely ghetto way of measuring hp and tq , buuuuuuut. It's all I have available for now. (Installing intake and exhaust this weekend). . In any case. Does this sound right? Or even close to being correct? Small discrepencies are fine w/ me.

195 at the wheels is pretty respectable for a N/A v6, scooter

your g-tech is reading high because you entered in too much weight. your car is nowhere near 4500 lbs. try 3800 lbs or something close to that. it will read more accurate whp numbers.

What's the curb weight of the CL?

I looked on the side of the door, and it read like 4,2xx. So I took into account my weight and my friend's weight plus all the shit in my trunk.

4,2xx pounds is the gross vehicle weight. the cl has a total passenger/cargo capacity of around 750lbs. the curb weight is 3,5xx lbs.

Thanks for clearing up. Guess I'll make another run.

Anyone know how accurate these G-Techs are anyway?

There's a good article in C&D last month comparing various performance meters:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=9380

Here's what they say for the Tesla Electronics G-tech/Pro RR:

Highs: Good accuracy without calibration, fantastically useful PC software, lots of unique features that you learn to appreciate.

Lows: Sunlight can make the screen difficult to read.

The Verdict: It does a lot for $300.

Interesting reading.

I'm very interested in what your gTech monitor results are after the weight correction. If it's very accurate, I'm gonna pick one up.

from what ive heard from friend, the g-tech pro is pretty acurate. they were comparing it to the dyno #'s they had and it was off no more than 3-5 hp if not dead on.

seems like a good investment to me

Does a 1990 Toyota Previa sitting on 22's sound ghetto?

And I'll probably make a couple of runs tonight. I'm headed out to the a lake campground. That means long stretches of uninhabited roads.

Well... re-did the run in El Monte after I installed an Apex'I full catback. Set the vehicle weight to 3600, and well... (don't have the G-Tech w/ me so I dont' have the exact #'s), but I got MORE horsepower this time... . It was like, 220 hp, and 200 tq. And then made another run and got 99 and 88... hahaha. I got a lot of wheelhop on that one though. Gonna make afew more runs w/ the intake in next week. I don't think the G-Tech's as accurate as it says. Hahah. Or maybe I'm just doin' it wrong . I'll be putting like.. 3650+ weight next time however.

I put 3600 and over compensated for going down from my 4500 the last week (forgot the curb weight). But wouldn't that mean I would get more accurate numbers from the numbers I got first? (First post).

Any thoughts anyone?
