Question cigarette lighter malfunction, shorting

I know this may be the wrong forum to talk about my civic, but I figure since honda/acura shares most of the same parts and troubleshoot the same way that I'd ask. Anyhow, the problem is that everytime I plug something into the cigarette lighter adapter, the radio fuse blows. I got the car from a relative and I don't know if I should just replace the cigarette lighter console area or what. Just wanted some input as to whether anyone else had this problem.
