Check Engine Code 1709
Went to the dealer last Tuesday due to check engine light. I was told that it was a code 1709. He went on to say that it was probably something "stickey, maybe a coke" had gotten on a switch under the shifter. He seemed to think that it was no big deal, that it would not be covered under the certified used car warrenty, and that if "I" wanted to really fix it, it would cost around $400. He seemed to think it was no big deal so I declined, they reset the ECU and off I went. Today the Check Engine light came back on, but this time the VSA is light up and the D5 in the shift indicator is blinking.
So can anyone give me a link or explaine what this code means?
Thanks

DTC P1709: Problem in A/T Shift Switch Circuit
Check Engine light on, VSA light on, and D5 blinking,....... I thought this was the prelude to transmition failure.

I would think if it was replaced a few months ago, this problem should be covered under warranty either way. I hate these chicken shlt dealers that always default to "It's not covered".

Dude walk back in there and show them whose man. At my dealership i dont care what the problem is. If I think it should be fixed it will be fixed BY ACURA. New/Used it doesnt matter, If that was me they would be hearing my mouth!!!!!!. If he thinks its coke tell him open up that MOFO and show u the damn coke (soda)

Haha, GD196 is gonna be my advocate!
I'm not worried. I always start out polite and reasonable, but if they want to start acting stupid I can change my attitude in a hurry. The dealer has been pretty good up to now so I'm willin' to give them the benefit of the dbout.
