Changing my own oil
I've decided to change the oil myself for the first time for my '01 CL. I've always taken to the dealer in the past.
The problem is that I can't use my ramps, the bumper hits before the tires do. I can't even see the oil filter and oil plug from below. I don't like working under a car with a crummy sissors jack. Any advice would be welcome.

Whatever you do, don't ever get under the car with just scissor jack, not that you don't like working under a car but such an act is strictly forbidden; we would rather have you here at ACL, not in the hospital.
My advice: Go back to letting the dealership do the work, they have the right tools, they can get dirty, they can do it right, they take the risks, and the price is right.

I'm going to take the car to a friends who has a floor jack and stands. I'm just trying to save some $$. I thought maybe there was an easier way to get to the filter and plug.

naa your not going to get to the oil pan without some significant lift on the car. you cant do that without a nice jack and some sturdy stands.
check out griots garage for tools that suck the oil out from where you put it in so you dont have to get under car.
but buy a nice jack anyway its always useful.

Okay pretty easy buy the METAL ramps and their plastic extensions should be around $40 very usefull also buy the a nice 4 tons jack (~$75 to $99) is wise investment for DIY projects.

i change my oil all the time.
just lift the car at the "lift spot" under the passenger side door, remove the passenger side wheel, and viola! there is the oil filter and just past that is the oil drain plug.
takes me all of ten minutes to change my own oil
in fact, i'll be doing it tomorrow since i bought 5 oil filters at the acura dealership not too long ago

You can lay a 2x8 board about 2 foot long, half way up the ramp to decrease the angle on the ramp and get you up without hitting the underside.
This is what I do to get under the car but be careful. Don't gun the engine going up the ramp. nice and smooth.

just you jacks and if your scared put a tire underneath the car so if it ever falls it will bot crush you . not the safest but hey.... that will do until you get a hydro jack. recently i used some jackes that was giving to my cl... i think those are the ones you call sissor jack

I have the same problem.
I don't know if you have a garage or not, but I've found that if I back my car into the garage and then put the wheel ramps at the entrance to the garage, there is a 1 1/2" lip (the garage floor is slightly higher than the driveway) and this gives just enough clearance to roll the car up on the ramps.

Where is my super sauce?

If you go to the second page you'll see my short review on the Griot's Garage oil extractor. Bluto recommended some other brands that were a bit cheaper from marine supply stores.
If you are having trouble getting under your car I would recommend an oil extractor. You don't have do deal with the drain bolt or a jack. The filter is easily accessible through the wheel well with the steering wheel turned all the way over the the right.
