Certified = New Battery?

2001 CLS. Bought in March 2004.On battery itself:
31500-SFI-A11AH
60 Mo Warranty
550 CCA/110 RC
Gr Size 24

In corner on edge is engraved into the plastic "C3FF"
Sticker on top of bat that says "Acura Genuine Parts"
Another sticker about the size of a dime that says......drumroll................................ .Made in Mexico.

Dealer says re certified that the computer says nothing re: battery, therefore it must be stock. Sure looks newer then stock. On the date "holes" neither the month or the year was punched out.

A way I can I.D. the battery for a fact?

Seems if it was Certed and replaced in March 2004 i should get some refund or replacement. As to pro rating, whatever i gain is gonna be nuked in the dealer priced battery, right? Rather get an Optima Red as other threads recommend.

Props to everyone and keep the info rolling.

Us Acura board members don't bend over and take it.

There is way to read the date code but I don't remember it, try googling for it.

Acura certified does mean they put in a new battery, if the one in the car is ok that's what you get.

The code is a string of letters numbers, but all the real information you need is in the first two characters. Usually, the code starts with a letter that corresponds with the month--'A' for January through 'L' for December (some manufacturer's codes omit 'I'; for them, 'M' indicates December). The second character of the code is a numeral that stands for the year. Thus, a code starting 'A2' indicates that the battery was shipped in January 1992; 'B2' indicates February 1992, and so on. (Delco reverses the letter and the number; a Delco code starting with '2C' indicates the battery was shipped in March 1992.)

Looks like you got a battery that was born on March 2003.

You are correct sir. Thank you Green Monster.
March 2003 Battery. From Las Vegas Acura. (I bought car in San Diego).

Soo, the 60 mo. battery lasted 29 months. I got 17 mos use of Bat.
60-29 months =31 months to be pro rated. Or is it? Acura Customer care gal(800) 382-2238 says 12 mo's 12K on replacement parts and she included battery in this. Dealer service said battery #2 -this replacement battery" is prorated after 24 months. Dealer 100 month battery starts at i think around $150.
So, I'm leaning towards the Optimal Red Top from Costco for $70 + tax n tip.

I asked Vegas Acura about the Made in Mexico
Parts guy says "it's an Acura Factory battery".

Guess Acura has a plant in Mehico?

Auto parts are a funny thing...

There's something called a 3rd tier vendors, 2nd tier vendors, 1st tier vendors...

It's an Acura part, but acura is in the business of making cars, not batteries. Someone makes the batteries for them, and they slap the Acura name on them. Sort of like what happens with the tires, 'cept those still have the Michelin name on 'em.

My brother used to work for a computer chip make (3rd tier vendor) that would supply electronic parts to a 2nd or 1st tier vendor, who would then sell instrument panels to Ford....

More then you wanted to know, eh
