I had my 03 CL in to get the recalls completed about 3 months ago (1500 miles ago). They did the belt tensioner and the water pump and the cam. But now, when my car gets warm, outside the car (and at times inside) I get this sweet smell similar to ozone. Smells like burning plastic just before it ignites. I took it in and was told that it was some coolant left over from when they did the recall. I had them pressure check the system in front of me, and it held fine.
I thought that after 1500 miles it would have burnt off by now. Anyone else get a similar smell after their recall was completed?

 

My 2003 only fell under the belt tensioner recall, not the other one. I had that one done about 3,500 miles ago and I've not experienced anything like that.

 

be persistant and maybe have them pressure wash the engine bay.

 

Sounds like the Seinfeld episode when Jerry's car stunk like B.O. after getting it valet parked!!!

 

The remove the timing-belt cover... so maybe it was put back wrong and is rubbing he pulley/belt or something!

 

If your smelling coolant 3 months after they worked on the car, you probably have a coolant leak . I had a problem with my radiator cap leaking awhile back, did they also pressure check the radiator cap?

 

Yeah, I had them hose the bay done and the cover under the engine, but I still smelled it when I got home. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
