Car feels like it almost stalls when coming to a complete stop quickly...

It's been doing this for a while now. Exactly how many months I'm not sure. Maybe ever since I removed the resonator from the intake and put a nice straight tube in its place and a hi-flow air filter.

I remember NovaWhiteTypeS (who has a nearly identical intake to mine) said something back then about how his rpms seemed a bit lower overall after putting in the less restrictive intake.

Any idea why my car feels like it almost stalls though when I come to a quick complete stop at a light? I think the rpms drop right when I come to the complete stop and that's why the car vibrates a bit for a second like it's gonna stall.

I see the rpms down around 650rpm, iirc. I think it used to idle more towards 700rpm. Either way, it hasn't actually stalled on me yet but it's still not normal.

Any ideas? No, it's not anything worth taking it to the dealer for at this point.

I noticed the same thing, but not often. It happens when I come to a stop, the idle falls about 200 rpm and slightly shakes. It has happened maybe two or three times, I think it is when you dont let it warm up before driving.

Mine does it too. Not always, but its happened for as long as I've had the car. I have 28,000+ miles and am bone stock. I've also noticed that its more likely to happen if I stop quickly. Having driven manuals for 10 years before the CL, it feels like when you leave it in a high gear like 4th or 5th and wait just a little too long to hit the clutch as you come to a stop. My theory is that the torque converter is a little slow to unlock sometimes. (Our TC can lockup in any gear but 1st.)

Dude, this is the "air idle valve". My top-notch crew at David McDavid figured this one out for me. I'd give you the part number, but all that shit's in my car.

Mine does it every so often and has died a few times (how embarassing!). Sometimes if I wait a few seconds though, it will finally go back to a normal idle.

That CAN be it, but MAY not be it...

Really? I'm sure this is the only thing that can possibly go wrong with the car. The symptoms as described by JRock are exact, I mean EXACT as the one's I had when I encountered this problem. I've done the leg work and I am simply trying to save him the three visits I spent in trying to figure this out.

It's certainly worth a serious mention to the shop foreman when he decides to take it in.

Yup, exactly. And we're not talking slam-on-the-brakes quick, just quick meaning you use the brakes firmly.
