Car was driven 100+ freeway miles in 2nd gear!!

I dunno how to say this.. but i think my car is dying. Last time I wrote a thread about how my old man is getting OLD, where everytime he drove it, something bad happens. 6 months ago, he came into town, borrowed my car, and drove it all around SoCal with the EBrake on. He didn't think there was one because there was not an EBrake handle in the center console.

This time I let him borrow my car so he can go to his golf games. He comes back and complains that my car is slow/sluggish on the freeway. I asked him if it was the Ebrake again, and he said he checked and that wasn't it. While I'm sitting there trying to figure out the problem he asked me what the little LED that keeps switching from 1 > 2 is? [don't forget that i have a CL-P... which redlines 2nd gear at 67mph.]

Not only that, evidently he doesn't know what lowering a car means.. because he also asked why my car keeps hitting all driveways and speedbumps.

i just hope when i try to sell this car the buyer never finds this thread.

Tutorial...lol....you in IT?

But yeah...this is the best advice yet. If you can't get rid of the old pops...might as well teach him a thing or 2.

(this thread is funny...made me bow my head down when I read the "my car keeps hitting all driveways and speedbumps" part)

Tell him to rent a car on his next visit. Even if you pay half, it'll be cheaper than a new tranny or brake repair.

wow dude, that's way messed up. i saw a similar thread last week about someone's mother driving around all day in 2nd gear. how is it that these parents always seem to move the shifter over to the left like that?

"back in my day there was a hole in the floor and we used to run on the ground to make the car move... none of those pussy engine things you spoiled kids have now"

Holy hell
I had a similar incident though. I let my boss take my CLS over to make rounds at a hospital 3 blocks away. He called me on the way back, and said he asked what the light with the number on it meant. Luckily it was only 3 blocks and he does not speed, so he wasn't going any faster than 45.
I feel your pain Akim

Slow and slugish? The car was probably pretty responsive in VTEC up until the Rev limiter kicked in. Your car's probably fine. It's been through some tough miles but probably no different than some of the guys on the boards over the weekend. Rev limiter probably kept your motor safe. Just get the codes reset before you take it into the dealer so they don't see all the hits against the limiter.

My Mom did the same thing to my brother's car when he had a 64 Chevelle SS w/ a 350hp 350 with a turbo 400. She wondered why the car made so much noise going down the road. Lots of power but noisy.

He should be joining us in 4 days or so.... A bit scared to give it him cuz last time he scratched two of rims...

Gonna go to work tommorow and see if I can delay my holidays for couple of days...

Sad for you guys. My Mom is such a cautious driver that she makes me explain everything to her before taking it out, if she ever does. My Dad is an excellent fucking driver. He probably understands a car more than many mechanics, so no problem there.

Ditto.. it's my 16 year old bro i gotta worry bout. He drive home about a mile and a half with the e-brake on, pissed me off when we heard this *roar* in the car and we realized it was on.

I was wasted as hell haha so that's the only reason I let him drive me home. Otherwise, nobody touches my cls

Dude, that part about the scraping and banging driveways made me cringe. Seriously though, i would make my father at least help me pay for any damages. If you can help him when he needs, then he can help you when he fucks up. Didint he learn after the first scrape that the car is low and needs to be driven more carefully.
