Unhappy Car is acting whorish

I have an 01 CLS (auto).

Some history:
I've had the check engine light flash on me during high rpms in 3rd gear. Dealer said it was a misfire code, did some tweaking and sent me off. The car will still do the same thing for hard acceleration in 3rd gear ... I dunno.

So the other day I was on I-15 going up a decent hill at about 90mph (with one passenger) in 5th gear. Normally this isn't a problem for the car but this time the check engine light came on and started flashing. Not just once either. It came on intermittently for the next ten minutes or so while I continued down the highway. After the light flashed I had slowed my speed to about 75mph. This was three days ago and the car has been behaving ever since then.

Anyone know wtf is going on? Taking the car to the dealer with this kind of problem is next to worthless so I would appreciate any advice you can give.

If the light is still on, get a buddy to pull the code for you...and post it...take a picture or a video of whats going on, that helps too.

Misfire code? A hand full of stuff can be linked to that.

yeah. since your CEL is still on, you will have to get that read. you can borrow an OBD scanner from an Autozone if you have to. what mileage are we looking at?

and you say the car is misbehaving on you. it can't be that bad since you haven't decided on going to the dealer as of yet. my mechanic out in Spring Valley doesn't come back til the 10th. let me know what you do/happens.

I'm close to 65k on mileage. I actually don't have any lights that are on at the moment. It was only the check engine light flashing. It went out after the fact though. The only reason I'm waiting to take it to the dealer is because it's a hassle and they probably won't know what's going on. When the code is engine misfire they just do a minor tune up and send you out the door.

In 5th gear? I've had a transmission failure before and it felt nothing like what happened. When my previous transmission died it started faltering in 2nd gear and then spread to the remaining gears until it was so bad the car would barely shift.

i was basing my statement on the issue you had in 3rd gear. i had a simillar instance paired with slipping and my tranny went a week or so later.
