Can we have these Speakers.
In the Jaguars, especially the new ones the sound is amazing. I think the company is called Harmon-kardon something?? If anyone knows anything about these or if they can be installed in our cars and how much I would like to know cause my dads new one has something like a 400-watt system in it that sounds awesome.

Harmon-Kardon makes high end receivers for home stereo systems. As opposed to our Bose systems I would think that Harmon-Kardon would make a very good car audio system but would want to audition it just like anything else. I personally like higher end systems so would carefully search for a good quality sounding system which probably couldn't just pick up at say Circuit City!!!

harmon kardon used to be in the 12 volt side of audio, but they have pretty much bowed out of the scene, except for their OEM stuff. BTW, in the new lexus sc430, yo have an option of a Martin-Logan sound set-up which automatically adjusts for top up or top down driving!! talk about high end....
as for me it looks like Diamond Audio Hex series....very highly rated.!!

does the same thing, it has a tiny mic and adjusts volume levels for you...and calibrates it so that it "fits" the acoustics of your car.

I was in the high end audio business from 1982-1995. We have been able to achieve "competetion level" performance using the FACTORY BOSE speakers with hand made passive x-overs and SERIOUS equalization. My 1998's equalization was so severe that some frequencies had deviation of +/- 25db!!!, due to the "no highs no lows, MUST BE BOSE. (A subwoofer is mandatory). Most lowend audio shops and appliance stores will say it cant be done due to the fact the factory Bose speakers are a 1 Ohm load which is death to most amps. It can be done if the people you are dealing with are from the "old school". My colleague and I,(he is currently a technical editor for Stereophile's guide to Home Theater magazine are personally instrumental in kicking off the high end audio installs and introducing subwoofers to the mainstream in the early 80's in the Detroit Market. We were doing 10k installs in 1990.(Earl Klugh's porsche 930 with his audiomobile amp installation is one of our famous examples from 1981.)
See for yourself, go into your local stereo store and tell them you want custom made passive x-overs and they will look at you . They were in diapers in the early 80's.

Martin-Logan makes Electrostatic home audio speakers. While they are a fine manufacturer (I've owned a pair already) they don't do car audio.
The name you're grasping for is Mark Levinson. They are the ones putting the electronics into the high end Lexus vehicles. I've also owned a piece from them before and have heard thier entire line of home audio. Too bad I've never had to chance to hear thier car audio offerings. I'd love to hear what a company that offers $32000 amps, $17000 d/a converters, and $15000 preamps (not to mention a number of other pieces) can do for a car.

Some brand names I've been impressed with:
mid/highs:
A/D/S
Focal
Image Dynamics
Boston Acoustics
Subs:
Image Dynamics IDMax all the way.
Amps:
Zapco
Xtant
I'm sure there's others, those are the ones I've personally experience and been very pleased with.

yeah the BMW's ones are not good at all . The supercharged Vandan Plas has a 400 watt Harmon-Kardon speaker system in it, which is 10 times better than the shitty 3 series one. It just sounds so nice. No matter what kind of music you listen to the sound is great. You just get that great feeling when listening to music, and another reason is i'm not big on bass.

Lexus does have a nice Mark Levinson system in it. I wish I could afford their home stuff. Martin Logan? Okay, similar names, easy to confuse I guess, but they make pretty good sounding electrostatics, nothing for cars.

Actually I believe the new Jaguars have left Harmon Kardon in favor of Alpine... Their old HK systems are very nice, so are their Alpines, though if I had the dough, McIntosh makes car audio as well. I have used their home amplifiers, and was greatly impressed, I would like to hear their car amps... Of course now if B&W only made a Nautilus series for the car, or any speaker for the car for that matter...

Really? Wow, I figured they stuck with them. Ok well that makes it easier maybe. Can we get that Alpine system. Yeah I called my dad and he actually said "your an idiot, it is 320-watt Alpine system." So kind, hahah. Anyhow it sounds awesome I think, can I have that in my car.
