Can a LARGE magnet effect radio reception?

The reason I ask is because I put in a Pioneer 7" DVD/CD player and the "brain" of the unit is mounted on the sub box and the radio reception wasn't that great....now the sub is out for repair, and the radio reception is great

Yes. Magnets, depending on strength, can effect a lot of things, including electronics and RF performance.
