Thank god I'm serviced by DWP. Can you belive I actually did 2 years of consulting for SCE. They were so thrilled about the de-reg stuff. In fact, they wanted to get rid of all of the power plants they owned!

Go figure...

Hmmm, let's see. Once the lock-up period was going to end, they would get a percent of each KW that was transmitted. IF the price went up, they would get more $$$.

Now, think of all of the companies that opted for "Interruptable" rates. I could say more, but....

I'll probably have to park it outside cuz if the power goes out there will be no way to open the garage door...

Yeah, I think I can pull it open manually...but what a pain in the ass if I want to go to school in the morning. Gotta wake up like 5 minutes early to pull that damn thing open. I gotta wake up at 6:00 anyways....every minute of sleep at that point conuts.

Stupid Edison.

Lets see: Park inside and risk being without car if an earthquake damages door. OR Park outside and risk stolen wheels, stolen stereo, broken windows, stolen car, vandalism, etc. Unless you have a squad of Marines patroling your driveway, I'll take option #1.

For some odd reason after reading this thread, East coast snow doesn't seem too bad.

Hmmm. Cold and above ground *or* warm and in crumbling ground. Wait a minute, we could be in cold, crumbling ground with a flashlight and matches.

Hey, it's not only a power cruch, but it's freezing here, literally.... The central valley is has had freezing temperatures for a few days now. Since the last storm it's been very cold her, and it usually does during the winter, so not only do we have the cold like the east coast (especially in the sierras), but we get those wonderful rolling blackouts..... Gotta love it. NOT!!!! I'm way PO'd about this whole power crap.

It ain't so bad if you live near a hospital
or some essential-to-civilization. Just hook
your house to the power lines of police stations, hospitals, or public transit, they
won't blackout those 'vital-to-life' things.
Luckily (or unluckily) at work we are hooked
up to the same power lines that feed hospitals, public transit etc. and if at home
there's a black-out, just live at work, like I don't already. Haha.

You live in Orange County, one of the most affluent countys in the nation. Besides, say, Santa Ana or downtown Anaheim, I dont think that'd be a problem...

haha not in South Carolina you hick! just kidding

only northern and central california.
LA generates its own power thank goodness, BUT thats not safe to say that our rates are frozen.
Its funny that the power companies can't reveal which cities were hit with blackouts
cuz security cams would be out, alarms would be out..cops would be at intersections and so on {hint hint} HAHA

260 horses makes a great getaway car no?

Yes ! It is "planned" by PG & E (Pacific Gas & Electric). PG&E knows exactly when, where how long etc....They don't tell exactly, because all the crooks will come out and target stores and rob them....so the news casts/radio stations etc....just warn us in advance. I had lunch with two clients in San Jose. After we left, and the blackout hit and turned the traffic into hell ! Computer giants loose "millions" of revenue and this is getting scary......

The problem is that the thieves go where they merchandise is. My 1st car (82 Accord) had a window broken by someone looking for a radio that wasn't there. I had removed the radio but left the empty case stuffed under the seat. They stole the case. My next car (92 Integra) had the "A" symbol stolen off the back. These both happened while my car was in the parking lot of the grocery store where I was working. The Integra also had 12 of 16 lugnuts and 1 wheel stolen while sitting in front of my house one night. All of this in Fountain Valley. It a nice city, but dangerously close to Westminster and Santa Ana.
