Bullettproof pictures-check out this site!

Earlier, I posted a note about a new chrome technology that is better than chrome but had to go through Adobe acrobat, which on my 200mhz relic and cheap as hell internet access would not work with.

Check out www.goodrichtechnology.com and also check out that black chrome! Check out the gloss, and check out the DOI (distinctness of image)!

I'm predicting that Nicky Pass, our resident wheel freak, is either gonna get wood, or just plain pass out when he see this.

Folks, this is non corroding, environmentally frendly freakin' PLASTIC! (powder coating, that is).

Nicky: no. How do I get it? Although pretty computer literate, I am new to how this board actually works. What did you think of the process?

I'll just ask you. I noticed a little chip on one of my wheels. Its right where the tire meets the rim...my question is....will the powder coating peel...or should it be OK? I don't know how it got ther, but I don't want it to get any bigger

is this supposed to cost less than regular chroming because of less enviromental issues or is it supposed to cost more because its more durable?

Nicky: figured it out before you replied, but thank you anyway.

Assuming your wheels were FULLY CURED, they should be very chip resistant. However, Keep in mind that ANY PAINT CAN CHIP.

I am involved with one of our companies, Hobart Brothers ( they make food processing equipment for industry), and we are powder coating cast iron mixers that are 2 ft. tall/125 lbs. to 1,500 lbs and 7' tall. I was granted $997,000 to build a new coating line for them in the middle of nowhere in Ohio.

For all the benefits powder has provided them, they want more chip resistance. It turns out that when a 250 lb. guy swings the ball end of a 5 lb. ball peen hammer at a powder coated mixer, the paint will chip. Well, GOLLEEEEE!

As far as cars go, there are four incredibly nasty areas on cars. They are wheels, leading edge of the hood, behind all four wheel wells, and the rocker panels.

Watch your wheels, and if chips multiply, complain to the powder coating applicator. Make him pick up the whole ball of wax, if so.

I thought I was pretty clear in that meeting, or exceeding the cure schedule of the powder paint was absolutely essential. And that time element must be observed AFTER all portions of the powder coated wheel got TO THAT TEMPERATURE.

Another indication is that the powder coating is glossier than the sample panel you were (hopefully) shown indicates undercuring.

If (more probably a question of when) the Busse woods thing happens, I have plenty of paint samples and textures to show to you. If something happens to delay that thing, we should hook up. I'm in Palatine (smith and 14), and mom and dad, who I see every day (they're 85 years old) are by kennicott and dwyer.

If you have an hour or so, M>F, or on a saturday, I will show you exactly how this powder coating stuff works. Trust me, this stuff is ten times better than liquid paint. However, you absolutely CANNOT skimp on the cure schedule.

Crazed, Nicky and Jake: Crazed, due to "intercoat adhesion problems" (realize, I don't have a sample of these materials yet, but AMAZINGLY, we do have vapor deposition capability where we are for applying the chrome coat), the only safe way to go is to strip the powder coating from your wheels, sandblasting can be done at most auto parts stores, and pretty cheap.

Nicky: what the hell is an avitar? and I think that that black chrome is just tits. I'm a stock guy, because I trade so frequently, but even I am tempted!

Jake: This is VERY NEW technology. GM, Ford and Chrysler are all over these guys. I work with these car companies, and they expect samples free of charge. They are paying these guys for samples! From what I can tell, the appearance is equal to real chrome, or very nearly so. More corrosion resistant, less labor intensive, and not very complicated. It is very important in any industrial process to dumb it down (read: keep it as simple as possible) to the lowest common denominator.

Meanwhile, I keep asking two questions: Is Busse woods gonna happen on the 30th of march, and WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF THE NEW CHROME?

Im gonna break for an hour or so to have dinner, and catch up on the news to see how close we are to annihilating each other. Will be back in an hour or so to check postings. Local time now is 6:15 in chicago. Shit, I usually don't type this much at work. And Nicky, PC demonstration still open to you. People listen to you. I can do a lot of good for people who want different/unique finishes for their cars. But it's gotta come from more than just one voice.
