Break pedal seems frozen

The CL's been sitting in garage for a couple of months so today I got in it and gave the clutch some depressions and moved through the gear box (I did not start the car). I went to depress the brake pedal and it seems like it doesn't want to depress more than an inch. I haven’t driven the CL in over two months and I can't remember how much play there is with the brake pedal.

I know storing a car is not good for extended periods of time. I know car dealers get new cars on their lots and they sit this long at time.

Is this normal for the brake pedal to be so tight?

If the car is turned off, and you press on the brake pedal, the pressure in the lines is going to build. This is why it may feel more firm and not want to go all the way down. In order to fix this you just simply need to turn on the car. This will allow all the pressure in your lines to be released.

Oh and you shouldn't leave your car in the garage like that. YOu should at least turn it on every so often to keep things flowing.

Umm, this is really Car Knowledge 101 stuff that the brake line pressure will build up if you keep depressing the brake pedal when the car is not running.

Thanks for the lesson. I love auto's but not very mechanically inclined. I keep learning more and more good stuff on this board. Oh, and not to mention spending money on mods that I would not have if I didn't read this forum. Oh the power of forums!

It'll fix itself once your turn the car on. The system releases it's vacuum assist with the car off. You only get about 3 or 4 easy pushes after the car is off and then it's back to the time before power assist brakes.

Check out http://auto.howstuffworks.com/power-brake.htm for a quick tutorial.

If I let my car sit for a day or two my gas pedal gets stuck and I have to push down harder than usual to go anywhere. But really, this is basic car stuff...brakes always feel like that when the pressure builds....
