Brake lines
Can anybody who has had new brake lines installed (Astro) or who would know please inform as to whether upgrading the CL's brake lines will decrease braking distances? Does the line upgrade only change pedal feel or can braking distances be shortened without adding bigger and better pads and calipers? Oy-vey bot those Brembo's shure rook mahvahlous and expensive.
Thank ya

while on the street, the lines will only help pedal feel and control...however if on the track and really heating up the brakes, you will eliminate brake line flexing which increases stopping distances...
I am going to order the brembo setup this week, I'll let you know what it's like when I get it...

I haven't really thought about it, but I've got 18" rims in any case, so it doesn't matter to me...

Thanks for the response. Yeppers I'm really looking forward to your brembo review. Dammit I'll bet the brembo upgrade will really help in the one area that this car really needs the most improvement. Dammit I say because I'd like to snap a BBS wheel deal but a brembo upgrade would kill that for a while. Anyways thanks again.

A suggestion to Snook would be to just put a small comment next to the part SAYING what size wheel is required (in lieu of calling and getting wrong/different answers).
just a suggestion to reduce message and call volume...

I seem to remember MikeB posting that the Brembos would work with some 17" wheels, but not the stock ones. I'm not sure if he was specifically referring to the 13" Brembos though.

The 13" Brembos require 14.5 inches of room, inside the wheel. There is a "clearance" issue with the calipers. They need a certain amount of room between the rim's spokes AND the caliper/pad etc.
I am a bit fuzzy on this, but I was told that I would get an e-mail with fitment details sent to me.
We shall see.
The folks at Brembos will be adding to their web site AND adding a picture with table to allow users to figure this out on a application by application basis.
They are also coming out (or have come out) with replacement rotors:
They are cad plated and are slotted or cross-drilled (not both). They are made by Brembo in Italy.
If/when I get more details I will forward the specs and/or url ASAP.

I hope this is useful. I got an e-mail from Brembo. I have a picture and a couple of Word docs. The info I received is for the 1999 CL braking system (12.9" disk/aka 13")
Here is the info:
Kit #: 111.6013A
App: Acura CL Front Axle Kit (1998-1999)
Caliper: Two piece caliper body machined from high quality aluminum castings.
Four differentially sized pistons (36mm & 40mm) for minimal pad taper.
Fitted with aluminum pistons with dust seals, and anti-rattle clips.
High quality black finish.
No “off brake” disc drag.
Rotor: 328mm by 28mm cross-drilled motorsports disc.
Anti-corrosive Cadmium plating.
Mounts “floating style to a vehicle-specific billet aluminum bell.
Pads: Galfer brand 3318 compound pads with 54.2 square centimeters of friction area per pad.
Brake lines: Goodridge brand DOT and TUV approved stainless steel braided brake lines.
Hardware: Caliper mounting bracket and all necessary hardware (aircraft quality) complete this kit.
Clearances:
A= 33.23mm = 1.31" (caliper to wheel min clearance)
B= 191.7mm = 7.55" (caliper radial clearance)
C= 28mm = 1.1" (disk thickness)
D= 7.11mm = 0.28" (hub flange thickness)
Minimum wheel inside diameter = 383.4mm = 15.1"
The rep at Brembo said the 99 CL had the same steering knuckle as the later cars.
Based on the updated data, the inside diameter of the wheel would need to be 383.4mm or 15.1 inches.
The "A" Clearance of 33.23mm is the distance between the inside bolt ring of the wheel hub to the most outside part of the fixed caliper. The 33.23mm is 1.31 inches.
The drawing that was attached, shows this distance as the distance between the Brembo's hub flange and its caliper.
They are going to be updating the web site later this week, and I was told a generic picture/schematic would be provided with a table of the A,B,C, and D specs.
I am a bit confused by the lack of a listing for a 12.4" brake.
I was also told by Comptech, that they helped Brembo figure or actually made the mounting hardware.
Best I can come up with at this time.
All kits are completely ABS compatible and retain the stock master cylinder.
