Bought some Toyo T1S Proxys

I love these tires! They blows doors on the stock tires, but most anything would.
I got a great price on the tires so I decided to go for it.
I speak to the assistant mgr and tell him that I'm anal about my car and that it's very easy to scratch those particular rims so to please be extra careful. They're working on removing the last tire from the rim and something 'pops'.
The guy sees the look on my face and tells me that the bead broke and scratched my rim. They're going to replace it but it's a week before they can get a rim in so I trade him the week for a free alignment.
Then I have this bright idea! Why not have them credit me the cost of the scratched rim and check on the cost of 4 SSR Competition wheels? They working on that now so I'll see what kind of deal I can work w/them.

My advice to anyone that's thinking about buying sways is to buy a better tire first. The sways will improve the body roll but the stock tires will still fold over when pushed hard.

There isn't a mileage guarantee on these tires. I'm hoping they'll last 25-30k miles.
Paid 141.75 per tire. The shorter life of the tire is well worth it IMO.

If you're going to play you have to pay.

As someone who got the sways installed earlier this week and is still running with the stock tires, I couldn't agree more. It was difficult to push the CL-S hard into turns with the stock sways and rubber. With just the Comptech sways, it's easy to feel overconfident pushing the car into turns because the roll is much less and the feeling is better...until the tires screech and howl and understeer in protest.

Nope, that's just the tires before tax and installation.

I'm also receiving a $250 credit for the rim they scratched and that's included in this price quote.

Do you think you'll need to roll the rear fenders on account of the Comptech springs?

The tires fit *and* the wheels fit. Everything fits. You could even lower the car and inch or two. Just don't get carried away.

The 235 Toyos with SSR Competitions also take a good curb beating without having to replace the TIRES or RIMS (as in the case of the stock wheels).

The Doctor will meet with any patients who want to become meat (if they show up with stock tires and sways) in the hills.

They were having a sale on them. 3 tires for the price of 4. I spoke to one guy and he quoted me a price of $189/tire. I called back a couple of days later to verify the price and the assitant mgr quoted me $242/tire. I told him I'd spoken to someone earlier in the week (didn't get his name) and he'd quoted me a price of 189/tire. He didn't even blink and honored that price.

If anyone wants a good tire store in San Diego check out Goodyear Tires on Poway road. They're honest, fast, perform excellent work and will match any competitive price even from the Inet!

Thanks for moving your pics to photopoint Tech!

They look that way, they have plenty of tread. Technique is showing a little negative camber (look carefuly and you will see). They don't look as deep as the stock tires, but the tread is very, very nasty.

The Doctor has had a number of people stop and make comments about those wheels and tires!

(The doctor can make a comment about those rear tread shots, since the doctor's look the same. Driving at 80 thru 40 mph turns does make for a well scrubbed looking tires

I noticed that neg camber but dismissed because I don't believe Tech has springs installed.
I took a posted 20 mph turn at 50 and the tires stuck like glue! Of course the springs and sways helped too.

The Doctor has here by declared your car too fast -- keep it under warp 10 please

OK -- maybe, warp 8 in the wee hours.

Dr can't allow speeds about warp 10 due to time police issues. Besides, do you really want to meet up with the doctor in merry old England (on a time/speed warp regression)?

I'm almost sold on this concept but I'm hung up on the the offset. I'm thinking wheels with +50, 51 or 52 -if they will fit in front.

The anthracite seems to look good in the pics, though; which surpises me. It's not at all like having black rims.

The +48 really does fit (in 7.5" and 8"). The +50 to +52 would just add 2-4mm more room to the inboard wheel and 2-4mm back out. If the wheels you want are in 50-52, you could probably make 'em work. You biggest concern might be with the rear inner fenders...

Maybe 500 miles on these tires. They are effectively brand new. They are pretty deep treads, just doesn't show in the pictures I guess?

Ya, I don't have springs installed. I am going to take my car in for full 4-wheel alignment this week I guess. Do you think the negative camber has produced any effects I will notice gone after the car is fully aligned?

Also, what tires pressures are you guys with toyo T1-S proxes running? I am at 32 PSI right now but I've seen people as high as 39 PSI (EricL).

I let my springs settle (Comptech said they wouldn't but trust me because they did) and my alignment was off but I couldn't tell once everything was straightened out.

I'm at 32psi right now but I'm planning on running 35 psi and then trying 40 psi to see which suits me more.

Actually I'm more concerned with the inner fender area in front in the case of too much offset. There's an annoying vertical suspension bar in front that seems to be the limiting factor to greater offset. . .I could be wrong though.

Correct, it's the inner position you want to maintain. ball park; +50 for 71/2, and +45 for 8", that would be with 225 and 235 tires respectfully.

Correct. And they weight 14 lbs each and are semi-solid forged.

Rear camber note:

The normal offset for the back is 0.0 - -1.0 degrees of negative camber in the rear. The lowering springs will add to that, but our cars and a lot of cars allow for a little bit of negative camber.

In general, negative camber helps handling. It will reduce tread life, but the car is not always going down a straight line, so there are trade-offs. The negative camber seems to "sit" well with the Toyos.

Some tires work best with a suspension that keeps them very flat on the ground. The CL-S seems to have some very good suspension at work keeping the tires very well planted on the road.
