Bought another CL Type S
Finally won the car I've been bidding on at several auctions. 03 CL type S, white over tan with the autotragic. 229k miles on it, check engine light on. Since I never sold my new timing belt kit, I know where that's going. Can't wait to get home and check this thing out for real.

Ok, here's the scoop. No 4th or 5th gear slips like crazy. Planning the AVS swap. Passenger headlight bulb not operating. Driver seat will not recline, but moves forward and backwards. Passenger seat does not recline, and one track appears frozen. One track moves forwards and back. Plan is to remove the seats and tear them apart and fix them. Car cleaned up nicely, I'll compound it tomorrow if I get to it. Cruise does not work. Light on the switch turns on, light on cluster turns on when you try to engage, but nothing happens. More research needed.

Did some more looking at it today. If I put the trans in manual mode, I can skip fourth gear, and go to fifth. So, fourth is my only neutral. Still plan on swapping in the AV6 trans, but thought this was strange. Trying to fix the passenger seat. The plastic gears were stripped on the motor and the other side. Replaced them and they stripped again. Since I used junkyard parts, no guarantee they were any good. Thinking I might replace the whole track. Both slides are free, with no binding and I was not in the seat when I tried moving it.

Way too much. $930 including fees. I didn't want to pay more than $800, but the want was strong. Car runs fine, showing a few codes. I suppose I needed something else to play around with now that the Pilot is finished.

The check engine light was code P0141. Was going to check the 02 sensor, and when I unplugged it, I saw one of the heater wires had pulled out of the connector. Put it back in, and no more check engine light. Love easy fixes. Replaced the 4th gear pressure switch, problem persists. Go to plan B. Yank motor/trans in preparation for the AVS swap. Since the motor is now on a stand, I can do the timing belt much easier. I will also do spool valve gasket, etc. Car was running fine, but I'm going to change plugs too. Looked like regular NGK, not the Iridiums. They were gapped at 55, which is way too much, even though they were nice and tan. Pulled a seat from a wrecked CL, and put it in. Only one track moved, so time to find yet another seat that actually works. ABS pump seems to be shot, so I'll be getting a replacement one of those as well. Also found out why the cruise control didn't work, the cable wasn't hooked up to the throttle body. It's coming around slowly, and with the travel it's even slower.

^^ Nice Job.
How's the rear main seal look?
I'm currently running NGK PZFR6E-11 Laser Platinum's and they are pretty good.
I recently purchased (rockauto) NGK 6441 Iridium IX's in the pursuit of trying to eliminate a persistent cold start misfire on my #5 cylinder. I've already changed the cop and fuel injector; however, it still occurs. Hopefully they provide some joy.

I haven't pulled the flexplate yet. With 229k miles on it, probably a good idea to change it. Going to do the front seal too, when I do the timing belt. I was a little concerned to see all of this oil in the upper intake, but I think a new set of gaskets should fix that.

If you remove the IM and hose it down with brake clean to clean it up, make sure to remove that rubber 'gasket' on top of the runner there. Brake clean wreaks havoc on that rubber.

Here's a white 2001 CL in Horse-Cave KY. The search was for a trunk lid w/o spoiler. It has the rear body panels numbered. Maybe they still have them?

Just curious, did you call Jeffries Auto Salvage in Horse Cave to see if they still had the rear body panels on that white car in the link above?
If not, use that 'inventory #' 2A3129 you see on the car, it might still be present.
I only used the 'trunk lid w/o spoiler' search term because it would bring up pictures of any car that 'might' be present for which you could score your 'rear wells'. Unless, of course it has already been crushed?

I like the spoiler look. There is a small bit of rust starting in the passenger rear wheel well. I won't address it, too much else to do. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to get a trans out by myself in the junkyard. $150 for a pull it yourself beats the $700 for one already pulled. When I was in NY, I searched Craigslist on a whim, and scored the carpeted floor mats and the all weather ones. Here's a pic of the JVC touch screen radio. Sounds great trough the Bose system. I know I have to reinstall that right side trim piece. My Rock Auto cart is overflowing with parts, but can't order them until I get back from my next trip. Could be two weeks, could be three weeks.

Got the timing belt done. The last one was a Honda, and a Honda water pump, so maybe the PO took care of the car. I did notice that the timing belt was off a tooth on both cams. Not any more. I had a noise that I couldn't figure out until today. Thought the tensioner was bad, but it's not. Then I thought Power steering pump, but that wasn't it either. When I took off the Harmonic balancer, I shook it and heard a noise. Something on the inside is loose, and rattling around. So, that's getting replaced as well. This car is going to be sweet when its done. PIcs because who doesn't like seeing a naked J32?

They were both retarded a tooth, so maybe that's why. I don't think a tooth off on the cam is nearly as bad as a tooth off on the crank. Either way, I'm on travel for the next three weeks, so probably no updates for a bit. Unless I get an ABS pump tomorrow.

I leave in two hours. This morning, I went and found an ABS pump.Of all the CL's and TL's they had, only one had the same configuration as mine. Hoping this will clear the ugly 52-1 pump motor relay open circuit code.

I could be interested. I'd much rather have the correct wheels on it, but the next buyer might not even care.PM me a price, and I'll see. Trying to stay in a budget though. Being in VA, I would drive up to pick them up.

Still on travel, but I have an AV6 question. The rear trans mount is a different part number than the CL trans. Mine is broken, I just want to order the right one.

And the AV6 is here. I noticed the fluid was purple. Thought it was strange. Replaced the filter, moved the cooler over. Still need to finish disconnecting the wire harness, fill the torque convertor and it's ready to mate to the engine.

Well, that was a short lived victory. There was an axle shaft still in the trans, with grease all over. I was going to clean the grease, and I noticed the crack Couldn't see it with the axle shaft in place. Here's a tip. Check the transmission before bringing it 30 miles home. I believe what happened is the CV joint came apart, and the axle slammed into the case, cracking it.

Since we're on the topic of getting screwed, I found a seat at a junkyard online, 6 hours away. Sent a friend who only lives 90 minutes away to get it for me. This is what he saw. Happened the day before he got there. So now I'm looking for a passenger seat again.
