Blue bulbs that glow amber?

Hey guys -- I remember reading an article a little while ago about a bulb that you could by that was blue on the outside but when it was fed power it glowed amber to conform to traffic safety rules. Any idea who makes it and what will fit our cars?

I like the blue bulbs cause when they are off they reflect off the surfaces in the headlight cluster giving it a blue appearence which I think looks really good on a silver car. BUT, blue bulbs are illegal and I need to get amber ones to conform to state laws. so ..........

WARNING WARNING
DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER!!!

Make sure you get a heat resistant paint on this one. I tried this like some other people suggested and ran into major problems.

I bought two generic turn signal bulbs and painted them silver. I let them cure for two days to make sure they were completely dry. I also made sure I did a very light coat on them, didn't glob the paint on heavily.

Well I finally put them in the other night and thank G*D I only put one in to test. I put it in and it looked great, I then turned on the headlights to get it to do the first stage glow. Looked good showed up Amber through the silver. I then put the hazards on to see how that looked. It looked good.

I then noticed that the housing with the Silverd bulb was getting a little cloudy. I looked at it and saw smoke curling around in there. I immediate shutoff my lights and pulled the bulb out, but too late. My drivers side turn signal housing is now clouded up from the smoke. I'm going to have to take it apart and gently wipe it down. Oh well guess I'll clear the marker lights now too then.

SOOOOOO basically learn from my mistake and test the bulbs OUTSIDE of the housing to see if the paint you use can stand the heat of those bulbs. Those little fawkers get hot since they are on continously and dual element. I think I'm going to wait until SilverVision or someone comes out with the correct type of bulbs!

Oh yeah, I used a High Temp Fuel Resistant RC Airplane paint.

Yeah I'm going to wait until Phillips SilverVision (I think) comes out with the specific type that we need. I'm not going to try the painting route again.

Right now, there is only one "non-amber when off, amber when on" bulb that will work for the turn-signals and that is the Polarg G-34. It's not as clear or silverish as a couple competing bulb brands but it is the only one that is a dual-filament type (which is required for our cars). It's definitely an improvement over the stock bulb but whether it's worth $40 (for 2) is debatable. Take a look at a comparison of them to the stock bulbs here: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Album...a=12444683&f=0

Info on the Philips SilverVision bulb is here: http://www.eur.lighting.philips.com/...s_sv_feat.html

I posted a link above so people could see what they look like. I got mine from this place: http://www.nextcollection.com/html/O...-3693-none.cfm

Also, Autodynamic.com and Xtremewhite.com sell them.

I beleive my dad put aftermarket road lamps in the CL-S before i got it; they're blue but cast an amber glow. Of course they're both burnt out at the moment.
