they will pay for it only if the city had piror knowledge of the pot hole being there. Call the city and find out if they know it's there.

They should cover it I think. I hit a pothole here in New Orleans and I called the streets dept and talked to them. I went to acura got an estamet and faxed it to them and they cut me a check. I needed a new rim and shock stuff like that. The total was like 750 bucks. Make the call the worst they will say is no

In NY they will only pay for it if thy had prior knowledge of the hole and have known about it for more than 24 hours.

A few years ago I nailed a pothole at speed and blew out both left side tires and bent both rims and the town wouldn't pay for it as I was the first one to call in about that pothole.

Dude...this happened to me right by the Rooselvelt Field mall in Long Island two years ago. My rims on my 3.5RL where only two weeks old and I hit this humongous pot-hole. I called the cops and filed out a police report and then filed a claim w/ the town. The town sent back a letter reporting that the construction company that created the pot-hole (construction site) was fully responsible for the damages. So I called the company and spoke to the manager. He couldn't belive his ears when I told him he should pay for it. He was cursing at me and hanging up the phone and shit but I kept calling and finally I said Curse at me again and I'll sue you for harrassment as well as the rims. Then he started to cooperate a little and he said sent me the letter the town gave me and sent the pics I took the night it happened. I took plenty of pics of the hole including some w/ my hand in it to prove how deep it was. Well I waited like 14 months but then I got a check for $580 for two rims and two tires. It took some time to get it done but it can be done so go for it. Good luck!

I am going through this process right now, first I called the county and they said it was the city; I called and sent paperwork the city and now they are saying it's the state; SO now I sent off all the documentation to the state capital. This all started in December BTW. We'll see.

In San Francisco, they'll pay for it. You have to take a picture of the pothole, the location, and the damage to the wheel. Once you get the wheel replaced, save the receipt. You'll have to send the receipt and a letter describing the situation and mail it to the city manager. That's how it works here.

I hit a pothole the 1st day I had my rims on my VW. The city paid for every cent of my new wheel (kept the old one for a spare) AND the hole was filled that same week.
