Man you really need to drive a newer F bod, vette or cobra. the 99+ cobra is nice with IRS, even in traffic, and the vette layout is quite impressive, very, very balanced.
Owning the two cars in question, assuming you are still stock in the cls, if you can account for bump steer on a rough road, there is no real comparison. the cl-s breaks away way before the SS does and maybe it' s that I'm just more used to rwd, but it's a little easier to slide it through a turn in my estimation.
Now driving smartly through traffic, ie seeing and darting through the right openings could surely level the playing field vs even a viper.
so if you're racing from stoplight to stoplight, weaving in and out of traffic to beat a faster car with a slower driver; congrats on your abilities but not your brains, a situation such as that has way too many variables, namely idiots on cell phones, soccer moms disciplining their kids etc, someone will seriously get hurt.
if you're in for the long haul, find a nice set of curves, in the back woods and challenge one of those cars, even if it's low speed and you aren't really expressing hte HP advantage, the torque is awesome and the brakes are superior on the F bod. any decent driver would walk, and continue to go away throughout.
it's amazing hte package chevy jams together for 24k. the drivetrain is fantastic (ok the rear end is weak), but the interior and fit and finish sure isn't. it's a crude machine. but want a 300 hp piece of refinement...just tack on another 15-25k and you've got it, the CL is balance, refinement and power; just not maxing out either one.
I guess i'd be driving an e46 m3, or c32 if i could financially put it together, as it stands i've got a summer runner, and a daily driver, each well suited to it's task, each with it's own personality, and clearly each with it's own talents...one is sneaky quick, surprising many, the other is brash and fast, impressing none and scaring away many.
